I tested few different ways
having two controls doing the change.
always the second change is the one that stays, I do not know why.

there is something that makes the data go away after a second or so, may be alpha is getting ready to get new data there.
I am not that sure.
I will test little later and report back on the flickering date data

I tried on a grid, you are correct it comes and goes away, but sticks on new data entry in the detail section.

I have removed the second "/" I the current example.

the code as I have now should work with the correction.
that's what happens when you rush to reply in the early hours of morning.

Sorry I got excited...saw a date pop into the field...pre-mature e-click-ulation I guess...lol.

I tried:

var policy_received={grid.Object}.getValue('G','POLICY_RCVD',{Grid.RowNumber});

var today=new Date();

if (policy_received=='1') {
{grid.Object}.setValue('G','POL_RCVD_DATE',{Grid.RowNumber},today);

The Result is: Tue Oct 07 2014 17:20:23....

Depending on what you want your result to look like this did work.

yes they were an oversight on my part but, I deleted my code to go back to check it in my computer.

I redid the dialog, you are correct, I made those errors. it was an oversight on my part

the correct code would be

var policy_received = {dialog.Object}.getValue('POLICY_RECEIVED');
for dialog:
var today = new Date();
var mm = today.getMonth()+1;
var dd = today.getDate();
var yy = today.getFullYear();
var t_date = mm+"/"+dd+"/"+yy;

if (policy_received == "Yes") {
{dialog.Object}.setValue('DATE_RECEIVED',t_date);

}

mine updates right away.

Hi Gandhi,
First thanks for sharing the code here for updating the date field via javascript, I tend to do this kind of updates on the server side events CanUpdateRecord and CanInsertRecord but after looking at your suggestion I decided to give it a try and found couple of things:

Your js date construct for todays date is not returning the correct date:
var mm = today.getMonth(); this will return the month from 0 to 11, so it must be incremented by one for current month.
var dd = today.getDay(); this will return the current day of the week from 0-6 not the day of the month today.getDate() should be used.
var t_date = mm+"/"+dd+"/"+"/"+yy; this have an extra "/" should be var t_date = mm+"/"+dd+"/"+yy;

I am testing this from a grid detail view so I created this js function and in my case the checkbox is treated as a logical field true/false:

Now, the code works in a sense that I am getting the correct date for today value but the first time I click the checkbox to set it to true, I see the date value being applied to my field 'ARSIGNATUREDATE', but it flashes and then the value dissapears, but subsequent clicking will then set the value correctly please see video here http://screencast.com/t/AwkUcb24G9cE sorry no audio.

Would you please verify if the changes to get today's date are correct and any idea why when assigning the value with "{grid.Object}.setValue('D','ARSIGNATUREDATE',t_date);" to the detail view it flashes and does not get updated first time?

I have it on the onClick event of the check box so I'm in the right place. I have no idea now construct the date from javascript date object...going to have to Google that.

you put that on the onChange event or the on Click event of the checkbox.
but now() will not work.
you need to construct date from javascript date object.

Hi All...

Been trying to figure out how to set the value of a field when a check box is checked. So...

When Policy_Rcvd is checked Pol_Rcvd_Date is populated with today's date.

I tried a client side calc and failed.

Now I'm trying a client side onClick event

I have:

setValue('G', POL_RCVD_DATE,{grid.RowNumber},now()[,honorChangeEvent]);

Obviously I'm doing something wrong as it doesn't work.

Any help you can provide I'd greatly appreciate.
