Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I'm curios, does your database field have "null" as default and is blank is null checked?

I know this is an old thread but I want to confirm that the same problem exists using MariadB for the back end. The only "solution" we figured out was to turn off write conflict for that field.

Just confirming this is still an issue (though I am an official release behind). Fixed using Pete's method with 3670_4684

Re: List Control Error - The database could not find the data you requested

A bit after the fact I realise but I had this error and it was of my own making after a fashion so I thought this might help someone

Two lists: LIST1 a list of surveyors LIST2 a list of their "assigned" jobs. List1 is the parent of List2. I changed List1 to be based on a SQL View that only contained surveyors with "assigned" jobs. When you "complete" a job in List2, it removes it from the list, if the surveyor in question has no jobs left the SQL View removed it from the data of List1. Now when you sync you get the error. I fixed by putting List1 back to an unfiltered view (i.e. I changed the underlying schema) and did my filtering in Alpha

Looks like this error is back for me today...I took petes advice and globally changed write conflicts to false - no joy. I am on the current release. If I figure out what's causing it I'll post back, well WHEN I figure it out.

Did it just come back after you updated Alpha?

Re: List Control Error - The database could not find the data you requested

In tracking down the bug (mine, I believe at this point) I used component backups to get back to a working component. I found backup 46 works, but 47 did not. I can't figure out what the difference is that is causing it but just to put everyones mind at ease I think it is something I introduced, though I do not know how or where. I was thinking I could copy the xbasic tabs to a word doc and do a comparison of the text to see what's different.
In short, I do not think it's an AS bug, but rather developer error on my part. As I said, if I figure out what I did to introduce the error and tangle up the list control I will post back.

Also, just to add - the ability to so easily go back to working backups is AWESOME!

Re: List Control Error - The database could not find the data you requested

This problem has hit me today. A simple list used to edit some pricing data. Last time it was used in late 2018 worked just fine. Today getting the error.

I have tried the suggestions above. There were two fields in my table that had NULL (MS SQL SERVER 14). I updated those to default values (0 or false) and still issue persists. I even rebuilt the component with brand new lists. I am running 5667-2554 on my server and development.

                      Any suggestions are appreciated.

I had the same issue and the problem wasn't with Alpha. There was a bug in an update trigger logic on the table that was causing the record to not actually be updated (but the trigger itself wouldn't throw an error - it just wasn't updating the record). So I think the Alpha message is kind of right - it's expecting to see a record with the new values being updated, but there isn't a record that matches.

for those times when you would rather keep the column(s) null instead of assigned a fictitious value,
you have the option to use coalesce(<column name>, <value if column is null>) as '<column name>'
