Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    List with detail view and disconnected data... help

    I am using a couple of lists with detail view and disconnected data. So far everything with the data synchronization is working excellent.
    My request for help is in the layout of the list / detail view. What I would like to do is hide the detail view until I need to edit or add a record. I do not see an 'easy' way of doing this. Any nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Since you're working disconnected then you're probably working mobile and so using panelcards. Put the detail into it's own panelcard.

    Another way would be to put a container around the detail and hide the container until you want it.

      Thanks David. I did not see right away that I could put the detail view in a panel card. I will try your suggestions.

        OK, thanks again David. I was able to put the detail view into a panel card, add some buttons to navigate and it still works. I guess I was a little afraid of breaking the disconnected data code.

        opps, to soon. It seems like I broke something..

        Actually I have a bigger problem. The data that was changed but not synchronized shows in all of the lists. I need to start a new thread I guess.

          Yes... the "connections" between the the List and it's detail are all defined in the List control. In a sense you just point to where the detail it. It doesn't matter if the detail is in another panelcard... you're still pointing to those controls and those controls have been defined in the List.

            Re: List with detail view and disconnected data... help

            OK after working with the list with disconnected data I know that to get the proper data in the list you have to 'search' for it. I am trying to modify this process so that it is automatic. Meaning that when I select the tab that opens a panel card that contains the list with the disconnected data it is filtered to the data from the current record I am editing, without having a search part.

            Here is what I have done. This code in the onRenderComplete event of the dialog that has the list with the disconnected data.
            Code:
            var po = {dialog.Object}.getParentObject();
            var nSlID = po.getValue('SLID');
            debugger;

            var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('list1');

            lObj.setFilter(
            	{
            		slid: RegExp(nSlID,'i'),
            	}
            );
            When I first added the code this worked OK and I thought great, I have the problem solved. Then I made a change unrelated to this code and after republishing it does not return any rows of data and I get this error:
            TypeError: tData[i] is undefined

            ...for(var i=0;i<tData.length;i++){for(var fCol in this.filter){if(this.filter[fCol...

            Does anyone know where I can find the help for these functions RegExp() and setFilter()? I have looked and cannot seem to find a description beyond what is in the Insert Method procedure. It does not explain what the arguments are. I am assuming that the 'i' int the RegExp() function is causing the problem.

            Alternately does anyone know of a better way to accomplish what I am trying to do?

              Re: List with detail view and disconnected data... help

              OK I have figured out a work around, but, there must be a better way. With a search part in the list control with a disconnected data.

              in the onInitializeComplete event:
              Code:
              var po = {dialog.Object}.getParentObject();
              var nSlID = po.getValue('SLID');

              {dialog.Object}.setValue('LIST1_KEYWORDSEARCH',nSlID);
              in the onRenderComplete event:
              Code:
              {dialog.Object}.getControl('LIST1').searchList({searchMode : 'auto'}); //automatically generated code from the search button
              I can hide the container for the search part client side and I only get a short flash of all the rows before the search takes hold. But again there must be a better way.

                Re: List with detail view and disconnected data... help

                Are you wanting your child list to only show records filtered by the parent list? If so, you can check the 'Has parent list' option in the child list's properties, which will then allow you to select its parent list and the desired linking fields. This will automatically filter the child list whenever you select an item in its parent list, without having to do it manually in js.

                  Thanks Rohan, I don't have a parent list to link to. Maybe I need to rethink the whole process I am using. Does what you suggest work when using disconnected data? From what I have read and the videos all show using the search part. I can do that very easily with lists that are not using disconnected data.

                    Re: List with detail view and disconnected data... help

                    Ah sorry, I misread and thought you had a parent list that populated the SLID control. Is that field manually populated by the user then, or does it get auto-populated by something else?

                    Just to clarify, I take it you have a parent component that has an embedded component containing the list? My understanding is that if you want disconnected functionality you need to have all your controls (including lists) wrapped in a single UX component. Is this possible with your current set-up? You can then directly map the search field for the list to your SLID control from within the list's properties.

                      Thanks for your help Rohan. I will have to rethink my whole process. I have tried to put all or most of this process into one ux however that created other issues. Thanks again.

                        Re: List with detail view and disconnected data... help

                        Thanks again for the tips Rohan, This has required a new thought process for me. With the flexibility of grids I was able to do things the way I wanted which is both good and bad. It allowed me to get a lot of work accomplished quickly but it also allowed me to create 'bad' designs where each component required a lot of custom code and processes as is the case of what I was trying to accomplish here.
                        I have created a new ux component, using mostly the wizards, that contains all of the lists linked with the main list data as it should and the synchronization process seems to work OK. I find that I can customize the forms easily and I don't have to modify the 'guts'.
