Setting an argument value using JS function

I'm trying to set the value of an argument using a javascript function. Doesn't appear to be working however. See screen shots below.

Where did I error?

Just a shot in the dark, but your code to be:

function getMRNum {
     var mrnum = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','MRNUM',1);
     getMRNum = mrnum; 
}

Instead of the "return" part. And yes, leave off the () for getMRNum on the above line.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I just checked and that is how I had to do it in my functions.

Thanks ...but something is still wrong. My button doesn't do anything.

If I remove this:

(Javascript:getMRNum)

from the argument value in the button definition the button works. Alpha's example shows it just like this so I'm at a loss.

EDIT: I don't think it's your code ...button doesn't work with either my original JS function or yours.

You did not define a function as you omitted the "()"

So your function definition must be:

function getMRNum() {
var mrnum = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','MRNUM',1);
return mrnum;
}

This function will always return the MRNUM value of row 1 from your grid but that is probably what you intend to do.

Chris: you confused xbasic & javascript as far as the return statement goes

Hmmm okay. I have that in my Javascript as I couldn't get the return to work several times... but I would certainly go with you as I don't know enough yet :) lol

EDIT: Ah yes, I did forget the () in my example code above... I did mean to include those (that is what happens after playing with GRIDs for a while last night and fighting a cat to clip its nails) :) :)

I changed the code back so it has a return now and added the (). The value still isn't coming over. In the UX that is opened I have it setup this way:

Found my error .... it's working now. Thank you both.

My argument find code was incorrect. I defined the wrong control. Should have been: e.control.MRNum=e.arguments.find("MRNum").data
