Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

File Upload - User Defined warning message

    Hi,

When using the File Upload - User Defined as per the video which uses "file.From_blob()" the A5XbasicErrorStackLog.txt on the server produces the warning below. Is there a better way? Should I stress? I could easily have multiple sessions uploading up to 5MB files at the same time.

    Thanks
    Peter

Warning: The uploaded file Data property has a size of 86549 bytes!
Referencing this property will force all of the data to be loaded into memory.
If you have many sessions active at once, this could potentially consume all available virtual memory on your server and result in errors.
To save uploaded data to a file, use the SaveToFile function rather than referencing the Data property directly.

    UploadedFile.SaveToFile(SaveFileName)

We recommend that you not directly reference uploaded file Data property values greater than 1024 bytes.
Use the length property of the UploadedFile object to determine the actual size of uploaded data.

Did you or anyone else use the SaveToFile function? I'm getting this warning, as well. Not sure where it's coming from, though.

This has been addressed in the current prerelease, 2531 (see notes), however this release appears to have a problem with data bound images so be careful.

What do you mean by "problem with data bound images"?

Re: File Upload - User Defined warning message

The new upload recommendation in the pre-release suggests using e.fileArray[1].tempFileUploadedData. I had to go to the new pre-release to solve another issue, so I tried this one, and it is not working for me in any of five different upload grids and dialogs, both data bound and data unbound that were working correctly using FileArray[1].data

So, tomorrow about 4:00 am (when I'm holping everyone will be off the server) I'll set them back to the .data version.

            Hi,

The e.fileArray[1].tempFileUploadedData worked fine for me however another problem relating to the new "UX Component - Data-Bound Image Field - Image File Transformation Template" feature caused some problems. I've notified Selwyn and I believe it will be sorted in the next prerelease.

            Cheers

Re: File Upload - User Defined warning message

The reason it doesn't work for me is due to my program. In my case, the file to be uploaded may be a photo, an excel spreadsheet, a word doc, a pdf or a text file. I don't know. So, in my program I put:

              if e.fileArray[1].file.dataType = "text"
              file.from_string(vPath+chr(92)+vProj+chr(92)+"POC"+chr(92)+e.fileArray[1].fileName,e.fileArray[1].data)
              elseif e.fileArray[1].file.dataType = "binary"
              file.from_blob(vPath+chr(92)+vProj+chr(92)+"POC"+chr(92)+e.fileArray[1].fileName,e.fileArray[1].data)
              end if

So, when I replace .data with .tempFileUploadedData I get an error because there is no .file.dataType in the filename method array.

So, my question is, do I need to know the dataType in order to upload all those different types of files?

From my testing - no you don't. I just use file.copy(tempfile,newfilepathname).
