Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Printing from an TextArea configured as HTML editor

    Hi All,
I have a grid with a TextArea control setup as HTML editor. User is able to copy and paste from MS Word into this TextArea control with no problem and the text keeps its format, color fonts, etc.

The problem is that I have a report in which I need to print the data from the TextArea HTML editor, and it is printing all the MS Word code instead of the formatted text, if the customer delete the copied text and enter data using the editor and format some fonts with bold, color, etc, then it will print OK.

Is there any way to convert the pasted MS Word text into HTML?

    Thanks!!!

I am not sure, when I tried it seems to work in preview and on the browser. but did not test publishing it.
copy the portion in ms word, then on the paste in word itself it gives paste special - options select html format
then go to alpha and paste as usual.
see that works for you too.

      Hi Gandhi,

Thanks for the suggestion, but still it is not working for me.

This is an image of the TextArea as HTML it pasted the MS Word text just fine and shows it fine with the bold font, etc.

This is an image of the report showing the same data from SQL table:

I pasted as unformatted text it did not have the markup in MySQL table.
I will see if there is any other option

you are correct, in report that gives the markup.
I will try again let you know.
this only happens with html editor in alpha so I will look there to see anything can be changed.

I clicked on this toggle code button to activate then pasted and saved and printed the report it looks ok to me without the markup.
          may need some tweaking.

Re: Printing from an TextArea configured as HTML editor

You may need to "clean the HTML". Copy-pasting from Word brings over a bunch of non-standard HTML. You can use this utility to clean that HTML: http://word2cleanhtml.com/. I think you have my CKEditor tool; if so it has an icon right on the editor that allows you to paste from Word and clean the HTML in one step.

Re: Printing from an TextArea configured as HTML editor

In your report create a calculated field based upon the html field like this:

              calcfield = printHTML(fieldname)

and place the calc field in the report instead of the raw HTML field.

                Hi all,

Peter, thanks that actually worked, using printHTML(fieldname) show the data in the report as it should.

Gandhi, also thanks for taking the time to try to duplicate this issue and come up with ideas to fix it as you always do with the community. Thanks for the link on word2cleanhtml.

Steve, yes I have the CKEditor but not using it in this particular grid for other reasons I don't recall right now, but eventually may incorporate it later on.
