Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    open a UX component with a filter

    Hello,
    I have been trying different options but still with no results.

    i have a ux component (UX1), with a button , where i would like to have a javascrpt action that opens another ux COMPONENT (ux2), where field DocID in UX2 equals field DocID in UX1.
    The records to be shown are those in UX2 wich are not bound to the same table as in UX1

    there are javascript actions to open a UX component to edit data in UX1, but not to add data into another UX bound to another table
    should I create the javascript action "open UX component" and set a session variable = to the field DocID ? if so how is that done ?

    pls see attached image.
    thanks
    Carlos

    Re: open a UX component with a filter

    I would recommend you use Arguments. You can create an Argument in your UX component that represents your DocID that you want to use. Then, in the onDialogInitialize server-side event, you can add the "Populate a Dialog with data from one or more tables" server-side action to load the record using the Argument.

    In the calling UX, set the value of your Argument to the field value. The Arguments portion of the UX doesn't appear unless there are arguments defined for the UX, but you should see something similar to this window when you setup your "Open a UX Component" action after you've added Arguments to your UX:

    uxArguments.png

    The Arguments are specified in the UX Properties portion. And, yes. You would use the Open a UX Component action rather than the other since the UX is bound to a different table.

    The comment block in the onDialogInitialize event should explain to you how to get at the Arguments, but in the event that it's missing:
    'e.arguments = SQL::Arguments object with values for each of the arguments defined in this component. To read a value from arguments: e.arguments.find("argumentName").data
    Good luck,
    Sarah

      Sarah,
      Thanks for your help. Anyway I was not able to ,make this work yet. I hope that tomorrow with more clear ideas I will.
      I followed the steps you suggested, but still have many doubts

      One question :

      When I said : i have a ux component (UX1), with a button , where i would like to have a javascrpt action that opens another ux COMPONENT (ux2), where field DocID in UX2 equals field DocID in UX1.
      I forgot to mention that DocID is the primary key in UX1, but not in UX2 . is this still possible in this situation ?

        If the only use is to populate a field, you can specify the argument as the default value for the field in the field properties:

          Re: open a UX component with a filter

          i this case the only use is to populate
          i have to say that it s not easy for some one like me starting with alpha , this with setting and reading arguments
          i will keep trying to make it work , but i still couldnt

          i ended up reading from ux2 the value from ux1, like this :

          var pObj={dialog.Object}.getParentObject('SEGUE');
          if (pObj){
          var va=pObj.getValue('docID');
          var b={dialog.object}.getValue('docID');

          if (va != b){
          {dialog.object}.setValue('DOCUMENTOID',va);
          }
          }

          thanks for your help

            That works, too!

            I didn't realize you were just starting. There's a video series that may be relevant (G_V12--18):
