Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to submit data from CheckBox and then retrieve it?

    Greetings,

    What dataType am I suppose to submit my checkbox to? and What TYPE should my checkbox be? Currently I have around 10 choices of a checkbox. So What i want to achieve is to be able to retrieve what the user chooses.

    To explain in further detail, lets say the user checks choices 1,5,10. How can I save this data and retrieve it later to show that the user clicked 1,5,10?

    Cheers,
    Polarbearcus

    SQL backend? ...In my UX's I use INT datatype in SQL, make the checkbox numeric, and then check "treat field as a logical field".

      If your checkbox has multiple options, then the target field has to be a character field large enough to hold ALL selections plus 1 character for each (for the comma), and the results will be stored as "1,2,5" or "North,South,West", etc. How you extract the value from that is hardly documented, but it is the .dump() function. This method works for both multi-select checkboxes and mult-select dropdowns. The exact syntax depends on whether you are using a UX or Grid:

      Grid Example - Did they select a specific value? This line looks at a Search Field named sceName to see if the value "CRD" was selected:
      if is_one_of("CRD",e.SearchDataSubmitted.sceName.dump()) = .t.
      <do something>
      end if

      UX example - Another method to see if the field includes a value. This gets all the values from service_request, converts from CRLF to comma and then looks for the value "DA":
      dim service_req as c = crlf_to_comma(e.dataSubmitted.service_req.dump())
      if inlist2("DA",service_req)=.f.
      <do something>
      end if

      Get all values and run through each:
      dim service_req as c = e.dataSubmitted.service_req.dump()
      for each foo in service_req
      <do something>
      next

            You didn't say what you wanted to do with the retrieved values, just that you wanted to get them. What do you want to do with those retrieved values?

              So the checklist values are stored in the SQL database table right?

              My list data source type is connected to that SQL database table. So right now when i tap on that particular row with the values, it would populate unbounded controls from the table.

              How do i do this? do i just simply {dialog.object}.runAction("populateControls"); in the <do something> stated above?

              Thank you so much for using your time to reply.
