Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Image transparency lost after publishing

When I do a print preview in the report maker all is well. But when I open the report after publishing transparency is lost.

In my report I have a static PNG image (the body) and a signature image (from a signature control) over top. See screenshots below.

Is this a bug? ...or an adobe reader setting?? ...I've tried printing to HTML and PDF. Firefox, IE, and Chrome give the same results.

I printed to the XPS printer and it works. I then convert it to PDF and it displays properly. I read it was an Adobe issue, so it should work in HTML, but it doesn't. Thanks for sending in the test case. Please let us know the resolution.

Heard back from Alpha ...there is an easy work around for this that is completely unnoticeable to the end user. Here is the e-mail I was sent....

          Hi Mike,

This appears to be an issue with AMYUNI -- however I found that I can work around for this by printing the report to an XPS first, then converting the report to a PDF using our xps_to_pdf() method:

From print ;preview, I did print, selected the microsoft XPS printer driver, saved to a file "e:\dev\mike_brown.xps" - then in the interactive window i typed

          sys_open("e:\dev\mike_brown.xps")
          xps_to_pdf("e:\dev\mike_brown.xps","e:\dev\mike_brown.pdf")
          sys_open("e:\dev\mike_brown.pdf")

This can be done in the application server by going to web project properties, and from the PDF Printing options at the bottom of the property sheet you can check the 'Use Microsoft XPS printer to generate PDF files' option to true. This automates what I did by hand and should address this issue.

          Thanks,
          Cian Chambliss

Using the XPS printer solves the transparency problem but presents me with a new one. I get the below errors on most other reports I have. I’ve tried republishing them, restarting the app server, and rebooting the entire server but the error message doesn’t go away.

If I keep pressing the “Print Report” button sometimes I get the top error, other times the bottom, and even stranger sometimes the report works.

              Sent this info to Alpha.

Re: Image transparency lost after publishing

Update from Alpha: They are able to reproduce the problem and gave me a hotfix but that didn't work either. Seems the XPS printer may have a bug too. Between the buggy XPS printer and AMYUNI printer doing what I need isn't possible at the moment. Alpha is still working on it however.

Thanks Mike. Reporting these bugs can be a lot of work in their own right...
