Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Open report without asking Open or Save

Our reports used to open up, but since moving to 8.1, it opens the frame of the report, and at the bottom of the screen it asks if we want to open or save the report. After selecting open, the report opens in another window, so now after closing the report, we have to close the other frame that that first opened up.
There may ne another reason besides the 8.1, but it seems like it all began at that same time.
I want to open the report, and if the user wants, they can save the report.

This is still driving me crazy. Can't figure out how to stop it.
Here are two screenshots showing that a window, that the report used to open up inside, opens but the message below it asks if I want to open or save. If I say open, the report opens in another window and when I close it, the first window is still open with my default message "Loading data..."
I have to manually close that window. It did not do this before the update.

The first image shows the window open and the message at the bottom. Image 2 shows the window still there after closing the report.

Users are getting as frustrated as we are. Appreciate any help.

If you use your app on a machine with win 8 or 7 this doesn't happen? Have you tried a different browser to see if the behavior is different? I wonder if it's a browser setting. I'm still running on Win 7 (I see no compelling reason to upgrade) and don't have this issue of double windows on any browser I use. Something else you may want to try: In your Web Projects Control Panel click Project Properties, in the Run-time Properties scroll down and open PDF Printing Options. Select the XPS printer and convert to PDF options and then publish your A5_application.a5i file. I don't know if switching to this printer will help any but it's worth a shot. Lastly, maybe uninstall your app server completely and then reinstall. These are things I'd be trying if I was having these problems.

Thank you Mike. Sometimes I amaze myself on how many Duh! moments I can have in a single day. I didn't think about trying it on chrome or Firefox. It must be an Internet Explorer issue. It works the way I want in Chrome. Apparently it is a broad issue with many people trying to find the solution since it affects any pdf file opened online. So far none of the "try this" solutions found online has resolved it. It is the biggest issue in IE 11. If I ever do get it figured out, I will post the solution on here.

I wonder if there is an Adobe Reader update that would fix this. You may want to try that.

I ran the update/fix option, and then reinstalled it. Didn't fix it.
I have the full version of Adobe 9.0, and I reinstalled that too.

I also double checked all the file associations in IE.
Don't know what to tell the customers when they call except to use Chrome.
