Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Trying to open 3 Views not tables

In the Database I am trying to access is set up in both tables and views for the payroll information it stores. I need 3 of the views to make the report the bosses want to see. My question is I can open each view into is own grid and then look at them different panels but they would like them all as one reports basically one panel is there an option to link the views or open them all. I tried writing a sql statement but it did not work (below):

    SELECT *
    FROM pr_accruals pr_accruals, pr_timesheet pr_timesheet, pr_time_attendance pr_time_attendance

this brings all the fields i need into the field view but It crashes Alpha Every time I try and run it
the SQL genie Parses the statement with no errors so What Am I doing wrong or what other way may work better

I believe the problem is the views have to be joined to be useable. Have you tried letting the SQL genie do the heavy lifting? Select the tables/views, join type, sort, grouping etc. and it spits out the SQL.

yes I did the joining also using the genie so good call on that thank you, just need to fine tune the records I am getting should be around 100 total per department but currently pulling triples and quads of information blocks so I'm getting over 700 but heading in right directions so thanks for tips.

Re: Trying to open 3 Views not tables

Glad that was helpful. The multiple records are coming from errors in your join rules. Look carefully at the join type. The one that works in most situations is "outer left" - option 2 in the join type dialog. (All the records from table 1 and matching records from table 2). Also, make sure you are connecting the third table to the second and not the first. However, if table 3 has records matching table 1 and not 2, this will not work. Part of the trick is selecting the correct order. I am far from an SQL expert, and perhaps one of them could help more, but I have had some success creating a new view for the first join in my DB (I copy and paste the first join expression from the Genie's SQL window - because I don't do hand SQL coding - into my DB manager's new view window). Then, I create the second join in A5. I would need to know more about the tables you are joining to be more helpful. If you are still having trouble, post more info about the tables and what you are trying to see in the joined results and I will try and help. Again, I am not an expert at this but have had some success with complex joins and I am happy to help as the experts here have helped me greatly in the past.
