How to set default dropdownbox value to last entered

Hello,
In a ux component i have a non static dropdownbox with 2 columns :

NameID(the stored value)
NameP(the visible value)

to make data entry faster and because the value to chose is often repetitive, I want that when entering a new record the default value of the dropdown box to be the same as in the last added record.

could someone point me the way I should go.

Here's one way you could get this done... all client side. Use a {dialog.Object} namespace variable... something like {dialog.Object}._defaultDD

In the onRenderComplete event do this... it sets up your dialog variable with a default value of an empty string.

if ({dialog.Object}._defaultDD == undefined){
	{dialog.Object}._defaultDD = "";
}

In the onChange event of the Dropdown control do this... it assigns the selected value of the dropdown control to the dialog variable.

var dfltDD = {dialog.Object}.getValue('ddTest');
{dialog.Object}._defaultDD = dfltDD;

How you get to your new record is up to you... but if you had a New Record button... you could do this... get the new record and then assign the dialog variable to the dropdown. You have to give .newRecord() a bit of time to work... so put your setvalue into a setTimeout.

{dialog.Object}.newRecord();
setTimeout(function(){
	{dialog.Object}.setValue('ddTest',{dialog.Object}._defaultDD);
},300);

or return {dialog.Object}.setValue('ddTest',{dialog.Object}._defaultDD); from the server-side event afterDialogValidate. That way you don't need a setTimeout.

should you read the help on the default value on that field it will say something like the default can be set to session variable.
in a dropdown the default should the stored value than the visible value.

I think the logic may be to a circular reference to session.nameP may be the way to go.
like in onFocus event or onDialogExecute event
check to see if there is a session.nameP available
if true then the nameP will be that value.
then on submission check the submitted value against the session.nameP value, if different then update the session.nameP value.

I did not work thru the steps,, only a thought process.
