Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

a couple of remaining list issues (non deal breakers)

My mobile list app is working near perfectly for me. I have tethered a windows tablet to my phone, loaded the lists, disconnected, gone about my business editing the data in the lists. returned reconnected the device synchronized the data and it all worked. Finally Yeah.

My remaining issues are: it takes 8 seconds for the parent list to render. That makes the users think something is wrong. Not sure of what I can do about that since I am loading the entire app and data when first run. The other issue is that I have created a ux to use as a timepicker. The built in timepicker is too small to use on a 7" tablet plus it does not always render or operate properly. The problem is the first time I call my timepicker ux it does a callback, which does not work if your device is disconnected. If I load the timepicker ux when there is a connection all is good since I am using a cached dropdown container. I guess I could build it in to the main app ux but it already takes 8 seconds to load and as I add more 'features' the load time gets longer. Is there a way to force the timepicker ux to load when the main app ux is rendered? any ideas are appreciated.

Is it possible to add a 'wait message' such as "Getting list"? Just a thought.

It is displaying the wait gif while the callback is in process, but there is a second where the wait gif stops and the ux renders. i have had to cut back on my disconnected list app. I have removed a couple of panels that display contact info and a map. I will link to a new ux with those controls. I have cut the load time to 4 secs.

On a mobile app, 4 seconds is pretty decent.

          Hi Ken,

To me 4 seconds is a long time when your not sure if at the end of the time you will have a surprise. I have trimmed my app down to the bare minimum to be useful for my business. It loads in 5 seconds on my desktop machine. The server is powerful and the connection is fiber so everything is going as fast as it can. It just takes 5 seconds to build all of the lists, dropdown boxes, html, etc.

Today I had no trouble with loading the list. Load times varied from location to location. But it all worked and I still feel it will get even better.

I understand your desires about the speed. For me, it's never fast enough. My remark is comparing your time to how long it takes web stuff to load on my phone. That said, I applaud your efforts.
