Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Session Ulink

    I have an old application that has database containing 16 different companies. When logging on the session Ulink was assigned to company. The following function in OnGridInitialize no longer works:

    dim t as p
    dim mco as c
    mco = e.rc.session.__protected__Ulink (No longer recognized)
    t = table.open("transaction")
    t.fetch_first()
    while .not. t.fetch_eof()
    'If t.co = mco
    t.change_begin()
    t.delete()
    t.change_end()
    'End if
    t.fetch_next()
    end while
    t.close()

    Does anyone know the new way to capture the session._protected_Ulink?

    Thanks.

    Re: Seesion Ulink

    In V12 the Ulink is defaulted to OFF, so you might have to toggle it on and configure.

    Since V11 the proper syntax for using referencing session vars in a grid event is just session.xyz (I don't know where you get "e.rc.session.xyz", there is no "e.rc" in any syntax new or old.) If you meant e.rv.session.xyz, then that is really bazaar because it would indicate the session variable was set in the URL. As of V10.5 you cannot set a session var in a URL, however I cannot tell if that is what you are doing.

    Thirdly, the requirement to use "__protected__" was removed I think in v10.5 or 11 (although you can still include it).

    Starting with late V11, the use of Ulink was deprecated, no longer the desired way to identify the logged in user. But even so, you can still use it.

      Re: Seesion Ulink

      Steve, thanks for replying on a holiday. Unfortunately, I do not know where to go to toogle Ulink on and configure. However, I assume is on as it is functioning. If you go to www.swksystems.com and enter norfolkvmf in User Name and password in Password you will get only transactions for Norfolk VMF 007. If you click on "Polled Transaction Upload" you will see 21 transactions that I imported from CSV file. At this point, the "Cleared Polled Transactions" button will clear all 16 companies, since I can not get the Ajax Callback to selectively clear just company 007. The import file only has transactions for 007, so that is not a problem. I will be adding another Ajax Callback function button to process the imported transactions against an Operator and Vehicle database to find missing data and create an error file. Again the imported file has the company #, so it will bypass all but company. This is not a game changer, as the chance of any VMF processing imported transactions at the same time on a given day is remote. It would be jst cleaner if I could only clear company 007 old transactions.

        Re: Seesion Ulink

        The "ulink" setting you're looking of is in the Web Security Configuration on the Customize Options tab:
        CustomizeOptions.png

        You need to make sure both the "Enable external user identifier field" is checked and "Session variable for identifier field" is not blank (in your case, setting it to __protected__ulink should suffice.)

        If you wanted to move away from ulink, you would need to user userid instead. Alpha doesn't automatically create a session variable for you containing the userid, though. You would have to create the session variable after login or use the web security functions to get the userid everywhere you need it. You can use the a5ws_GetCurrentUser() or a5ws_Logged_In_User_Values() to get information about the current logged-in user. This is from the user values wiki example:

        Code:
        <%a5
            dim pUser as p
            a5ws_logged_in_user_values(pUser)
            if eval_valid("pUser.userid") then
                ? "User id: " + pUser.userid +"<br>"
            end if
            if eval_valid("pUser.email") then
                ?"User Email: " + pUser.email +"<br>"
            end if
        %>
        There are more web security functions available, including one that will fetch the ulink value based on the user GUID. Alpha has listed them here: http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/~alpha...tion+Functions

        Good luck
