Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alternate View - Google Map

I have an application that displays map markers for 43 Enterprise Rental locations throughout southern New Jersey. When I click on Map with a Record per page of 5 it displays
the first 5 map markers. However, when I change Records pt page to 10 or higher, it displays a map of the world. and I have to zoom in many times to bring up the map of New Jersey and display the 10 or more markers. What, if any, option am I not setting to bring up NJ with just 10 or more markers displaying. Thanks.

www.swksystems.com/12.a5w www.swksystems.com/8.a5w displays same database as a mobile app.

Re: Alternate View - Google Map

The last time I had something weird going on with google maps was when I was attempting to load a marker for a location that didn't actually exist for the view I was using. I think I was using a road view and one of my markers was in the desert... not close to a road. I think I remember that it didn't show or kinda messed things up. Is all your data good?

All my data is good. When I zoom in, it will display the first 10 location markers when I set Record per page to 10. All the maps in my mobile app work ok.

            Kenyon,

It appears that the five database records where "Area Supervisor" is in the Address field may be causing your map zooming issues. These five records do not contain valid street address information for geocoding. In the desktop web interface, Google is geocoding these records to (0,0) degrees latitude and longitude. That is why the map is zoomed out and there are map pins located on the equator just under the country of Ghana. In the mobile web interface, it appears Google is using the state abbreviation from each record to drop the pin in the middle of the state.

Thanks. I will either put in valid street addresses or remove the "area supervisors, as they are needed in this app.

What you want to do is suppress empty records...

Re: Alternate View - Google Map

What I did was put in addresses and Longitude and latitude in area supervisor record and that solved problem. Thanks.

                    oooooor, that.
In Alpha V3 in the marker properties there is an option to hide the marker if the lat and long are zero. I don't know if that's available in your version. You could create a button to show or hide records in the visible grid that do NOT have coordinates, then the map would not show them. Obviously adding coordinates was easy. I just thought I would put that out there for people who may not be able to control whether or not users do that and still want to offer an easy way to hide the marker.
                    Cheers.
