Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    populating repeating section in a UX component

    i am a bit confused on how I should do this:

    I have a ux with a repeating section
    the main part of the ux is bound to a table (tblDocs), with the primaryKey (DocID)
    the repeating section is bound to a table (tblDeliveryNotes), with primary key (NoteID)
    the linking field is SuplierID, comon to both tables

    i' d like that on the change event of an unbound dropdownBox (myDropDown) in the main part of the UX to choose value of a suplierID , to populate the repeating section with all the records in tblDeliveryNotes where the field suplierID = suplierID in the control myDropdown.
    After the repeating section is populated, I should be able to edit records, but no need for adding new ones.

    I have tryed the javaScriptActions : "populate controls from a table", and "lookup fill in" , but iam afraid that i could be going the wrong way
    any thoughts or a video I could watch related with this ?

    thanks

    Re: populating repeating section in a UX component

    That's very easy to do with xbasic in an ajaxCallback. I do it all the time.

    This should get you started. Just modify and call this from the onChange event of your unbound "MyDropdown" control.
    Code:
    function getDeliveryNotes as c (e as p)
    dim vjs as c
    dim cn as SQL::Connection
    dim flg as l = cn.open("::Name::conn")
    dim args as SQL::Arguments
    args.Set("whatSupplierID",e.dataSubmitted.myDropDown)
    sqlStmt = "SELECT [U][your field names here][/U] FROM tblDeliveryNotes WHERE SupplierID = :whatSupplierID"

    if (flg .and. cn.Execute(sqlStmt,args)) then
         dim rs as SQL::ResultSet = cn.ResultSet
         dim cnt as n = 0
         while rs.NextRow()
              cnt = cnt + 1
              row = convert_type(cnt,"C")
              eval("j.[U]RSFIELDNAME[/U]_a5instance" + row) = rs.Data("[U]TBLFIELDNAME[/U]")
              '....add the rest of the repeating section fields...
         end while

         'JavaScript to return
         vjs = "{dialog.Object}._setRepeatingSectionRowCount('[U]CONTAINER_RS[/U]'," + cnt + ",true,true);" + crlf()
         vjs = vjs + "{dialog.Object}.populate(" + json_generate(j) + ",1,false);"

    else
         vjs = "alert('Error: " + js_escape(cnx.CallResult.text) + "');"
    end if

    if flg then
         cn.Close()
    end if

    getDeliveryNotes = vjs

    end function
    There, I wrote the whole thing for you :)
    Replace RSFIELDNAME and TBLFIELDNAME for each repeating section control you want to populate. Also, make sure the name of the repeating section is correct.

    Hope that helps.

      Re: populating repeating section in a UX component

      Although the code is great... because Carlos is using bound data tables in the UX, it's not really necessary.

      The dropdown needs to be an unbound control... and in the onChange event of this control run the Action "Get Primary Key values for Records in Query".

      This action will get a query key value from a control (in this case the dropdown) and then retrieve the needed record.

      Have a look... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkMC7y_gnPw

        I know you asked about ux, can this not be done with parent grid and editable child grid.. I would think it lot easier and you can open the child grid below the parent in the free form area and it will look the same as ux with repeating section. you are going to edit the data nothing fancy.
