update session variables from list control

I have a UX with a list control. When a user makes a selection from the list I want to update two session variables with data from that same UX.

I'm assuming I must do this through the list's onClick event using an ajax callback, correct? Below is a screenshot of the onClick event as it is now. It populates my UX then runs the ajax callback that should update my session variables. Also, below, is the function I'm calling. Highlighted in red is what I'm not sure of. I don't know how to make those two session variables equal to the fields in my UX (pateintname and mrnum).

Which event are you using to call the callback from? Have you thought about using state variables? Otherwise you should have the key to the record in the callback. You can use the SQL_Lookup() Function to get the values of the fields or you can pass the values in the callback in the extra data to submit. ex. "_patient_name = {patientNameField}, _mrnum = {mrnumField}" I have not tried that for a list control but I think it should work.

I'm using the onClick event in my list (screenshot in my first post).

In my ajaxcallback "additional data to submit" I inputed this, " '_patient = {patient_combined_name}&_mrnum = {mrnum}' ". The tips say it must be in single quotes and use a "&" between values. When I select a list row, however, I get an ajaxcallback error...

I hate to bump this after only a few hours but I'm at a loss here ...been trying to figure this out on my own and just not having any luck.

Bottom line is I need two session variable values to be equal to the field values in my UX. When a user makes a selection in the list the session variables are then updated. My hang up seems to be syntax I think.

The passed in values will be available in your Xbasic function as request.variables._patient and so on.

With David's help I was finally able to get this all working.

The onClick event in my list control...
