Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Xara and grids - problem with grid overflowing bottom of page

    I have a new client and need to build rich content pages and incorporate grids. I have spent considerable time getting familiar with Xara and have created many of the pages that the project needs. Then I started adding grids and hit a snag I just have not been able to figure out

    In a few cases, the grid will be read only and will display all records (no navigation). When I do this, the grid either runs off the bottom of the page, overlaying the footer -or- gets chopped off.example_grid_overflow.JPGexample_grid_overflow_2.JPG

    After renaming the Xara htm page to it's .a5w counterpart, I added the header and body statements needed to run the page and all of that works, my issue is getting the page to grow with the grid

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I have spent several days trying a lot of different tags and approaches and none of it works. When I have tried various things, I can get varying results, just not the one I want. This tells me I am not conflicting with all the css and other files Xara creates

    here's the a5w page

    Re: Xara and grids - problem with grid overflowing bottom of page

    Try setting up a container for your grid to live in on your page. Try using embed or iframe. I just created a grid and it's default a5w page and shoved it into a fairly simple bootstrap page I have... worked pretty good.

    The grid scrolls inside the region I've defined for it.

    Code:
    				<div>
    					<div class="iosPage" id="myBrid" style="width:13in;height:10in;">

    					<embed src="http://mymachine:81/myfolder/grd_Customers.a5w" width="960" height="500"></embed>

    					</div>

    				</div>

      Re: Xara and grids - problem with grid overflowing bottom of page

      Thanks for the suggestion Dave, unfortunately it isn't the result I'm going for. I'm looking for the entire grid to display on the page and as it grows, the length of the page needs to grow with it and of course set the footer to be at the very bottom.

      Here's the variation of the code you suggested and results
      <div>
      <div class="mygrid" id="myBrid" style="width:7in;height:4.75in;">
      <embed <%A5 ?x_TEAM.Output.Body.Grid_HTML %> width="960"></embed>
      </div>
      </div>
      example_davev.JPG

      I believe the changes need to happen where the page size is set, which is right after the </head> tag. In this example, the height is set to 1000px. I have tried a variety of height settings/options and none of them worked. I also omitted the height setting thinking that would do the trick but to no avail. When I compare this code line by line to a a5w page created from Alpha, there is no height setting

      I am stumped

        Give this a try... I think it's working...

        http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9...-without-using.

        I put the full a5w page into the iFrame, but the grid output should work as well. I don't think it cares what it is... it just gets the object's height and sets it.

        Very cool stuff. Good question.

            Re: Xara and grids - problem with grid overflowing bottom of page

            I've been experimenting with a handful of the suggestions from the stackoverflow article and from your video (Thanks Dave!) but cannot get it to work. I suspect I'm making a syntax error somewhere

            Dave K - could you post the code from the a5w page that you used in the video ?

            After I get this working, I'm going to have to decide how to manage this code, especially after more pages are created. Using 2 tools (Xara and Alpha) with neither being the authoritative source will lead to extra maintenance and possible mishaps

              Here's a really simple a5w page. You'll have to use your own grid.
