Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    move focus to next field in a grid search part

    hi,

    i have a grid search part with a range control. when the first text box ( the one with the starting value), has the focus, and if the enter key is pressed I would like the focus to move to the next text box (the one with the ending value)

    i tried the following code in the onKeypress event of the control 'VALOR'. but still not working. is this the wrong event ?

    var keycode = event.keyCode;
    if (keycode == 13){

    $('{Grid.ComponentName}.S.TO.VALOR').focus();

    }

    I have similar code on a UX component, but I put it in the onKeyDown event and it works for me.

    One thing seems a bit strange with your code though, you have
    the following code in the onKeypress event of the control 'VALOR'.
    and then your code sets focus to the same control
    $('{Grid.ComponentName}.S.TO.VALOR').focus();
    surely you want to put the code in an event on a different control?

      Re: move focus to next field in a grid search part

      Hi Lance,
      thanks for your reply.
      the control 'VALOR' is in the search part of the grid, and it is a range control with a starting value and an ending value, so my goal is that by pressing the enter key whilst the focus is in the starting value to move to the ending value control

      that is why I was trying :
      $('{Grid.ComponentName}.S.TO.VALOR').focus();
      I also noticed that if the ENTER key is pressed when in the search part of the grid, the search is executed, frustrating any sucessful moving of focus to another control
      I appreciatte your help

        Re: move focus to next field in a grid search part

        Hi Carlos,

        I just added a search range control to one of my grids and checked it out in chrome debbugger to get its name and it had
        S._TO.SECTION
        The underscore is important, I can see the field getting focus but unfortunately the search initiates and I don't know a way to stop that in a grid. Much easier in a UX with a list control.

          Lance,

          Thanks. the missing underscore solved half of my problem
          $('{Grid.ComponentName}.S._TO.VALOR').focus();
          Nevertheless I have the same problem you described : the focus moves to the ending value textbox, but right after that the search initiates.
          Anybody has a clue on how to NOT trigger the search when the ENTER key is pressed ?

          Regards

            Code:
            event.stopPropagation();
            If there's some sort of default browser behavior you want to prevent on the textbox, include event.preventDefault() as well.

                I ran across this today: http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/Event+...stopEvent+V105

                It's another way to stop the event from bubbling:
                Code:
                $e.stopEvent(event);

                  Re: move focus to next field in a grid search part

                  All I wanted to do was move the focus of a search field from the FIRSTNAME field to the LASTNAME field without hitting TAB everytime. This was my simple solution after hours of trial and error

                  I placed this in the OnKeyPress javascript for the FIRTNAME field of the search part. Now when I hit ENTER it moves to LASTNAME everytime. Simple and foolproof.

                  if (event.keyCode==13){
                  $('{Grid.ComponentName}.S.LASTNAME').focus();
                  }
