Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Need help building popup, selecting multiple id's and send them to a repeating section

    Hi
In one of my apps, i need to add a feature to my invoice issuing UX.
The UX has a top part ( customer, billing address etc... ) and a repeating section with the products (productid, description, quantity, price and linetotal), then a footer with totals and payment settings.

In the products repeating section, i am now trying to do the following:
    - the products table has a sub-table RelatedProducts. For each product one can add a list of products ( related productid and default quantity ) that are related to this product
Now in the repeating section, when selecting a ProductID, if there are any related products, i would like to show a list of related products and have the user select all or some of the related products, then upon submitting the popup, fill-in the repeating section following lines with the selected related products.

    Thanks in advance
    Jaime

Don't want to be brutal, but you really need to re-think your approach to this considering the List control and the ViewBox are now available for you to use. The repeating section was an easy and fast way to add or modify records based on a parent, but like the Grid and Tabed UX, the repeating section just is not friendly to non-desktop devices or variation to its' original use case. Spend some time on the List and the Viewbox, it will be a great investment into your future development.

Thanks Pete, no good advice is ever brutal.
I am indeed starting to implement list controls as grid replacements, and controlbars. Need to go to the last webcasts about the viewbox so i a learn how to use them wisely.
Assuming i use a list control instead of the repeating section ( using in-place editing to mimic completely the rs ), is it possible to have the list not save anything to the underlying child table until the whole UX is submitted?

As for the purpose of this post, do you have any ideas? I thought about using a Window container that is hidden by default, and will become visible whenever a product has "related products".

Here's what I'm going to do on this, I'm going to build what you are wanting as its fundamental to ecommerce clients we all have even more so with lockdowns over the globe. I'll do it over the weekend and come back to you, i'll base it all on the 2017 Northwind SQL, the problem you describe depends on two pieces of data needed to bind the tables, in Northwinds we already know there is a customer, we know there are already categories (and Description that will tell us of the similar items) and we know there are already products, shipping etc. The issue is the orders table, like most systems this is the header, it holds things like the CustomerID, the Shipper. Orderdate etc. and the all important OrderID this is the only field the Order Details table needs linking to all other tables, without it, the Order Details table has no knowledge of who the order is for or where its going to be shipped to, so the orders table without a link to Order Details table means nothing even it its submitted without the OrderID value, without it, it becomes an orphan record as it does not know who the order is for, so the first thing to do is not allow Order Details to be submitted that don't have the value of the OrdersID. However, it the first record in the Order Details is submitted, this the link is created and it can then be edited, added to or deleted on the basis of the status of the Shipped (date) field in Orders. The worst case is there will be a rouge record in the Orders table that does not have any Order Detail records, should this occur it will never be seen by anyone other than the administrator or the cleanup utility to remove and flag orphans, SQL will not be able to link so the clients won't see the issue. It's all doable, but there's not a current method (as far a I know) for this process that uses the controls released in the last 2 years, so now might be a good time to visit the issue and document a solution. - anyhow let's see what happens, i'll come back to you.
        Pete

Pete i'm speechless, this is great you giving a shot at this during the week-end.
You are right, this is a fundamental issue and not only in ecommerce but rather in almost all apps i ever built...

Is it possible to prevent the repeating section from saving if there are duplicate items ordered entered?
