Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    UX Component - Action Javascript - Open a UX, Grid or Report - Dynamic Panel

    Anybody had any success with using javascript to specify the alias and the title for a dynamic panel? This is a pre-release feature where it shows two calls to some javascript are needed but it gives no clue as to how to set the javascript and what should be returned

    I think Dion said it was still being worked on in that regard. I think he said they were adding in a way to set it in the builder. They uploaded the video yesterday of the meeting but it's privacy is set wrong so you cannot see it right now.

      Hi Charles,

      Yes I watched the webinar live and the previous one. I was one of, what seems many, who pointed out the problem with the alternative to the tabbed_UI and am very keen to get working on this while in lockdown and was just hoping someone had worked it out.

        Hi
        Just tested and it works ok, didn't do anything special.
        In the Dynamic Panel title i entered
        Code:
        javascript:myTest
        Then in my javascript functions:
        Code:
        function myTest() {
        return 'test title';
        }

          Thanks Jamie, tried this on my action JavaScript and it didn't work! Deleted the action and rebuilt it and now it works.

          However by setting this you still cannot open a second page by clicking on another row in a list, this must be to do with setting the javascript in the ux alias

            Well in the GIF showing the feature in the pre-release notes, you can clearly see it opens different customer rows in different panels. I am close to a point in my app where i need this, so i'll start playing with it. Will update here if i can make it work

              Yes same here, whenever I put anything in the UX alias apart from <DefaultAlias> it breaks the action JavaScript

                Well, i entered JAVASCRIPT_MYUXNAME in the ux alias ( all in uppercase ) and declared a MYUXNAME Javascript function, my javascript action still works

                    After a lot of debugging and restarting my development machine and my application server, finally got it running with JAVASCRIPT_MYUXNAME in the UX alias but it still will not open a second dynamic panel

                      Oops. Forgot about the second dynamic panel. Will modify UXNAME to generate a random name and test it, we'll see

                        Just tested it and it works ok.
                        In the alias i use JAVASCRIPT_MYUXALIAS and in the dynamic title i set javascript:myTest.
                        The functions look like:
                        Code:
                        function myTest() {
                        return 'test title'+Math.floor(Math.random() * 10);
                        }

                        function MYUXNAME() {
                        return 'FORM'+Math.floor(Math.random() * 10);
                        }

                          I am baffled as to why mine won't work, copied your code and it just opens the same dynamic pane no matter which entry I click on. I am using a viewbox configured as a list to open the panel(s) but notice in the pre-release notes Selwyn is using a list, maybe I will try that.
