Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Security/Permission got broken for all users except Admin after adding a new control, please help.

    Hi All,
I am facing an odd error on my Alpha Anywhere project. I am using the latest version.
I have 3 types of users:
    ►Administrator
    ►Users that only read data
► Users that read and write data

I can edit the actions behind buttons and publish it with no issue. All 3 groups can log in and used the app.

    But

When I add a new control like a button to a page and publish it, all users can log in but
Users (read and write data) after clicking on any button will navigate to the following page and right after 3 seconds will go to "Wrong Permission" page.

I have published the security setting a couple of times but no progress.

I have tested the old back up of the app, the same issue, doesn't let me add any control.
The security tables are on MS SQL.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Are you on IIS? Did you right-click on the component and choose the security?

      Hi Ivasic,
      I use the Alpha Server.
Yes, I have selected the security by right click on the component but no progress. By the way, If I have missed setting up the component security properly, I have to be failed only on the newly developed component not on all other sections.
Right now, after adding a simple button, all other pages go to Wrong permission after 5-6 seconds.

      Any Help will be appreciated.
      Thanks

My first action would be to restore the pre-modified build.

I would suggest doing a full publish (All Files In Project) and un-click "Publish new or modified files only" I have found that this resets some strange security issues I have ran into in the past.

            Hi Peteconway,
I have restored an old version and even uninstalled the current version the installed the version that everything was fine. but again, if I add a new button, every action goes to wrong permission except for the admin and users who have only Read access. I have tried to define a new user and group but no progress.

I always do the full publish, but no progress
Is there any way to delete all security and publish it again.

Here's what I would do, leave what's working - leave it alone, copy your application and work with the copy to find the culprit that's breaking your code when you add the button, this is something I have bumped into before, make a change, save as the filenane_001 _2 etc, first thing I would do to get it going is use an image onclick event to fire the action, also review if its a javascript action causing the issue by just running the code in the on_click, also I've seen you can get this problem because of where you are locating the button, look at that as an option, just keep trying variations - so what if nothing works, well rebuild the component, make certain the button you want is the first thing added, then the copy paste your javascript actions, then paste other controls over section by section and keep testing as you go, add your callbacks Javascript etc. sometimes its just quicker to do anyhow, and it gives you away to move forward with other mods as needed.

                Good luck with it.

                Pete
