Hi All,
Can someone tell me if I am going crazy as the built in Thumbnail creation does not seem to be working for me at all!
I have tried this on two different Alpha instances. Including the current release (6655-5457)
The Use Case I am aiming for is this.
An Offline All (NOT PHONEGAP)
Backend database is SQL Server 2012
Photos are being stored into varbinary(max) field type.
The App is working well, EXCEPT I need to create Thumbnails.
Lists are all in one UX and are storing in LocalStorage
Note: The reason we are storing in the tables is that then there is is a Alpha Desktop App then then has active link mapping to this table and then brings in the data to the desktop DBF tables
List structure is:
-WorkNotes
- FieldData (This is the list with photos)
Field techs take a lots of photos of the job into a child List FieldData
All is good and this is working except... I want to create a Thumbnail of the photo to that we we sync up that when I bring back this record (as the techs need to see jobs for the past week) I only want to download the Thumbnails and reduce the payload going into Local Storage.
Now looking at the action "Image Capture for List-Detail View - Camera/Photo Library" There is built in option to create a Thumbnail ... Cool I thought. I figured it was a server side process so wan't expecting it to be there on he UX immediately... But I did expect it to be created in the resulting record on the SQL database.... But... NO !
What the hell am I doing wrong or does anyone have another way to achieve this?
I have attached the test UK and also here is the script to create the SQL table (MS SQL)

Also here is a walk-through

Create the table:
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Bruce

Create the table:
Code:
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[fielddata]( [FIELDDATA_ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [wn1] [int] NOT NULL, [PHOTO] [varbinary](max) NULL, [THUMBNAIL] [varbinary](max) NULL, [CAPTION] [varchar](max) NULL ) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY] GO
