Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Exploring PWA and need help with full screen on iPhone

    I would like to make a Progressive Web App and would like some help creating it for an iPhone. It seems to work ok on a desktop computer in Chrome and Safari and Firefox.

    I have attached an A5W page and a UX which I am using to test (zipped through the Web Projects Control panel, so import the same way, don't open with Windows unzip).

    You can also see it here (rough draft, not formatted for production use yet) at https://alphawebapps.com/fullpage/fullpage.a5w

    On an Android phone, it seems to work ok, but it does not work in Chrome nor in Safari on an iPhone (XR in this case).

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jay

    Hi Jay, well it works on the iPad and iPad-Pro - however there is an issue, IOS puts an opaque x on the screen over other content to indicate you are in full screen and you can use the x to return to normal mode, but does not work on iPhones as you said.Could not find a solution. At first I wondered what you were doing, then it dawned on me, lose the browser URL bar, great idea!, looked great on the iPad, gave it more of an App feel. Would love to see it solved.

      Solved. You need to create a manifest.json file, open the app in Safari on the iPhone, then share the app. One of the options in Safari for sharing the app is "Add to Home Screen"
      When you do that, an icon is placed on the home screen which opens the app in full screen.
      I did find some caveats:
      all navigation must be done in the application.
      the manifest file must point to the home A5w page in the app

      Here is my manifest.json file:

      {
      "short_name": "Dashboard",
      "name": "Dashboard",
      "icons": [
      {
      "src": "logo.png",
      "sizes": "512x512",
      "type": "image/png"
      }
      ],
      "start_url": "https://alphawebapps.com/fullpage/fullpage.a5w",
      "display": "standalone",
      "theme_color": "#000",
      "background_color": "#000"
      }
      I also added these meta tags to my A5W page:

      <meta charset="UTF-8">
      <meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes">
      <meta name="mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes">
      <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">
      <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="ie=edge">
      <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
      <link rel="manifest" href="./manifest.json">
      <meta name="theme-color" content="#ffffff">
      Still learning, but making progress. Next project is to get the barcode scanner / camera working through the PWA

          Now, if someone would like to help me with a barcode scanner in a PWA (without paying the $999 fee per year for DynaSoft)...
          Thanks,

            It's open source and maybe you can integrate it...

                Thanks, Charles. I will look into this, but it certainly looks complex.

                  Obviously you are developing PWA but maybe you could separate the barcode reading part and use Alpha Transform for reading barcodes in to your solution. You get fast start.

                      If you are seeking a real professional solution and you want to use iPhone there is an option available which in fact is very unique because you actually use iPhone app and which works in practice in real action . But the price is high (4000-5000). I am not sure how data is saved (or shared) in iPhone and can Transform read it directly but I am sure that app made by AA can. Anyway interesting solution.

                        I'm guessing Alpha launch is a free but not desired option.

                          I have used Alpha Launch, and it works well, it is just not as easy for the end user as a PWA would be.

                            The only thing we've found to not be easy is the initial installation.
                            After that, it's pretty much just 2 taps.

                              Hi Jay,
                              Where do write the json.manifest file? Is that a part of the UX component, how does it get published.
                              Sorry, I'm just starting to look at this PWA and can't find much to get me started. I need to do a login portion first and can't figure that out yet.
