Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Amazon S3 upload wrong endpoint address

When trying to upload a file to Amazon S3 i get this error message:

    Code:
XHR error. Reported error:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><Error><Code>PermanentRedirect</Code><Message>The bucket you are attempting to access must be addressed using the specified endpoint. Please send all future requests to this endpoint.</Message><Bucket>xxx</Bucket><Endpoint>xxx.s3.amazonaws.com</Endpoint><RequestId>C6610291BB92592A</RequestId><HostId>qFB8Lbyz1gao6nMcuDGIKZkD+e8Mtxjk1MpcmztuFC8HA1SHaOn8uKsrk+y0DMliiNFxoT2dz5w=</HostId></Error>
Seems like Alpha is using https://s3.amazonaws.com/bucketname instead of https://bucketname.s3.amazonaws.com.

Can i change the endpoint URL somewhere?

I just tested this with the Amazon S3 Region US East (Virginia) and the Action Javascript File Upload Amazon S3 Storage... it all works.

Which Region are you using? Do you have permissions set correctly on your S3 bucket? Does your Named Connection String test correctly?

I resolved the issue by no longer using a name storage string. I was using the Image Upload action Javascript - the solution used explicitly quoted access and secret key to get the image upload to work!

It's not an issue with the use of a Storage Connection String as that's what I'm using and it functions properly. Something else must be going on.

I am having a very similar issue but mine is on mobile/phonegap only. My storage connection string is working in web based apps. I was excited to see the suggestion of using an explicit connection string only to find that is not an option for Action JS for mobile (Neither in image upload - explicit not permitted when mobile is selected nor file upload-phonegap - not offered).

The error I am receiving is at the top of the screen capture below. I also sent this to the "beta spark" user which seems to be the AA facilitator in the tablet optimized forms forum. To my surprise, I was pleased to get a response directly from Selwyn who, after receiving my component provided the following video to show that the exact same component I sent him was working for him except for he changed his storage connection string. http://screencast.com/t/gTtcDVuVGCj8

Mine is still not working and, needless to say, I am extremely frustrated. Since it is phonegap, regular debugging is useless but I did find several phonegap debugging tools through the documentation and other searches, including, Chome debugger, Weinre, and gapdebug. Through none of them, however, am I even able to tell what file is responsible for the "filename, directory name or path syntax is incorrect: DDD" error. I suspect that it is not the file for upload as in the image upload action this is simply set by the action with no user input at all - just a file selection. I do note that through a phonegap emulator, which allows for the running of phonegap apps in a browser, it seems to be working with my localhost in live preview but not in the published version.

In the 10 years I have been working with Alpha, all of it wonderful btw, this is by far the most frustrating problem I have ever encountered.

Component works perfectly in developer, both Live and Work, but fails when published. I'm even uploading the same test files.

Simple controls, not much code. Fails with the noted message. Nearly identical to Video of Amazon S3 upload.

Same AWS credentials. Web app, not mobile.

              Frustrating.
