Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Possible to use AA for a standalone mobile app?

    Hi,

I would like to know if its possible to make applications that only use the Local storage in the mobile and not connect to a database server, so the UX saves the inputs to local storage in the smartphone.

If we take the Building Your first application video, use that app and instead of the access database, would it be possible to use the UX list Local Storage Manager function?
    https://vimeo.com/68622659

And after that, would it be possible to make a report of the inputs in the UX and send it by email or upload to the cloud?

    Off course using Phonegap.

    Thanks
    Soren Vestergaard

Yes, you can create an xbasic function to populate an email from fields in about any AA form, and yes you can use local storage. The real question is how much time and money are you willing to invest into this to bring it full circle?
I am not an expert by any means but I have been able to accomplish these things independently.
I have a form that saves data to local storage and I send emails that include the values from fields. It was not easy to accomplish and I have spent money on software, books, and training videos (twin peaks). Lets not forget my wife who thinks I am insane for spending so much time on this that I now write and develop grids in my sleep and wake up with ideas to implement that I forged in my sleep...

Anyway - This is probably NOT as hard as I make it out to be, and I do admit I do NOT have a high IQ - I am just determined...that being said - YES what you are asking about can be done. I wonder though why you are wanting to use a local storage device that will lose the data. Why not just use a blackhole?

      Thank you for the answer.

My knowledge of building smartphone applications is very little, but I was just hoping I could use AA for building a "note" taking app.
I don't know anything about storage in the mobile, but just curious if I could build an app which collect data and send it by email in the end.

Or should I use another tool for building a standalone app?

There are a lot of note taking apps already on the market, not to discourage you but it seems like investing in alpha to build one would be so that you could sell it.
I think you would find that once you learn how to create in Alpha that you are not limited by it and you can build about anything. It is a great tool, there is even a note taking example (video) out there built in Alpha5.
