Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Remember Me on login screen?

    Many sites have a Remember Me option, so that when user logs in they can check the box that says Remember Me, and next time the user accesses the login screen, their UserId and Password is already populated.

    I use a ux on an a5w page as the login component, and I have security set to "expire when current session expires". How can I implement Remember Me functionality?

    Hi,
    I don't use a checkbox for a remember me option, I always display the last username and password.
    I think it should be easy to add a checkbox for remember me and save it somewhere.
    The way I do it ;
    in the onrendercomplete event I have :

    function restorevar(){
    var luserid = localStorage.getItem('ls_userid');
    {dialog.object}.setValue('Userid',luserid) ;
    var lpassword = localStorage.getItem('ls_pass');
    {dialog.object}.setValue('Password',lpassword) ;
    }

    setTimeout(restorevar,750);

    in the afterlogin event

    var luserid = {dialog.Object}.getValue('Userid');
    var lpassword = {dialog.Object}.getValue('Password');
    if(luserid != '') {
    localStorage.setItem("ls_userid",luserid);
    localStorage.setItem("ls_pass",lpassword);
    }

    I hope this help

    Paul

      Hi Paul,

      That code works perfectly. Exactly what I needed. Thank you so much!!

        Just as a follow-up for anyone who is interested:

        Building on Paul's solution, I added a Checkbox control to the UX with the one choice defined as: Remember Me|Yes

        Then I added 2 buttons, one to login and remember the login, and one to login and not remember the login (see below for the code in each of the 2 buttons)

        Then used client side show hide to display the appropriate login button depending on whether user checked the Remember Me checkbox control.

        I then deleted the code in the afterlogin client side event

        The code in the 2 buttons inline javascript:

        1. the login button that will login and remember the login credentials:

        var luserid = {dialog.Object}.getValue('Userid');
        var lpassword = {dialog.Object}.getValue('Password');
        localStorage.setItem("ls_userid",luserid);
        localStorage.setItem("ls_pass",lpassword);
        {dialog.object}.login(1)

        2. the login button that will login and not remember the login credentials:

        localStorage.setItem("ls_userid",'');
        localStorage.setItem("ls_pass",'');
        {dialog.object}.login(1)

        See attached image .............

          While this code works very nicely (and helped me a lot), just wanted to give a heads up that it is a bad pracitce storing passwords this way. They can be found in Chrome's Developer Tools easily under 'Application > Storage > Local Storage > (your url).

          Maybe there is a way to encrypt the password here but following these steps revealed it for me.

            But unless they have your device, how would they retrieve the password?

              Why not encrypt / decrypt the passwords when saving them locally?

                Hi Jay,

                I am not sure I see the importance of this. Mobile devices have easy encryption capabilities anyway, and unless the "hacker" had the mobile device, how would they discover the password? And if they stole the device, they could not access the device without a pin or password.

                Am I missing something?

                  Gary,
                  No, you are not missing anything. Some people wear belts, others want belts and suspenders (braces, for our friends across the pond).

                      To Jay's point: All apps are different and it just depends on requirements. If the app has to pass a security validation process then you would need to encrypt it regardless. And in case you are wondering if it's possible to hack into the phones, recall that the FBI used Israeli technology to hack a couple terrorist cell phones..,so it is possible. It all comes down to risk assessment. We do have a couple mobile apps in the field with literally no security on them, just using the phone security and a device id cookie. Phone is reported lost it gets wiped.
