Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Tab Pane Reference in Div ID

I have developed a UX component that opens in a tabbed UI. The project is such that one will often need multiple instances of the same component in separate tab panes. Within the component, multiple buttons opens additional child components within the same div (eg, <div id='myDiv'>). This all works great until there are multiple panes in the tabbed UI. When a button is clicked in any subsequent panes, the child components open in the first pane instance in the tabbed UI. This is no good, obviously.

The tips section from within the action javascript window for opening a UX component suggests that one use 'div1_Row{grid.rowID}' as a unique div ID in a free-form edit region. However, this acts the same as I have described above. I have also tried to utilize the free-form edit region by referencing the unique record ID (eg, <div id='{projectID}'></div>), but nothing happens when the button is clicked.

I have a hunch that there is a pane reference similar to {grid.rowID} that could be used as a dynamic div id, but I don't know what it is or if it exists. Has anyone run into this problem or have any suggestions on how to resolve it? Thank you.

So it looks as if you are opening the same component in multiple panes using multiple tabbed ui buttons ? In that case use the override settings in the component definition (in the tabbed ui builder) ; that will allow you to create "unique" instances of the same component; take a look at the existing settings (by clicking the button) & then decide which one you want to override. You could also decide to use session variables in some way to differentiate component instances but beware that sessions do expire.

Re: Tab Pane Reference in Div ID

Thank you for the feedback, Frank. However, I don't understand how the session variable will make the component unique unless it is a value that dynamically references the tabbed UI pane or pKey. Also, wouldn't overriding a setting in the parent component apply that override to all of the instances of the same component it generates?

I'll be more specific with my problem. I am not using the tabbed UI panel buttons at all, in fact the panel is hidden and inaccessible to the user. The home page is a grid and selecting any rows on the grid will open up a UX in a new tab (eg, tab2 and tab3). Within that component is a button that opens a child UX in a <div>. When there are two or more instance of the parent UX, the subsequent to the first instances load their child UX in the first instance (eg, when the button is clicked in the parent in tab3, the child is loaded into the <div> in the parent in tab2).

In the HTML, by adding new panes, I am duplicating the same hard coded div ID and the xbasic/js is delivering the additional component text to the first instance of that ID. So I need to create a unique div for every tabbed UI pane, both in the new tab's additional HTML and in the action JS that opens the child component.

I've looked through a lot of documentation for a magic bullet placeholder or something and have come up short so far. There are alternatives ways to do what I want to do, but I feel like there is a clean solution on my current track. I have fiddled with setting session variables in the UX action item setup, but don't know how to set the outcome of a js function to the div ID.

        Ian,

Are you opening a UX when clicking on a grid row or an a5w page with a ux on it ? If you create a sample workspace based on a sample dbf & sample components then I'll look into it.

A UX is opened in a new tab in the tabbed UI when a row is clicked in the grid.

I think I may know what you are getting at: if the grid row opened an a5w page, it would create an independent HTML from the others. I've been considering it all day, where the JS would window.location.assign with page variables of the primary key in the URL and the server would intercept it and process the data. Is there a better way to pass data from one .a5w page to another? Is that what you mean by using the session variables?

So you use the action javascript "Open a UX component" ? I don't see how you then
In the HTML, by adding new panes, I am duplicating the same hard coded div ID
That's why I asked a small sample workspace. Opening a UX in a tabbed ui pane actually creates an iFrame & the necessary html to display the ux so I don't see where you come in.

I'm sure what you're after is simple to do but you have to help me with a sample workspace

Re: Tab Pane Reference in Div ID

Resolution: with Franks help, I put the placeholder, {dialog.ComponentName}, in the field for the div ID in the onClick event to open a UX component. I then created a static text element defined as <div id='{dialog.ComponentName}'></div>.
