How to duplicate record in List with Detail View?

Hi
In my app i need to provide, for many lists ( with detail view for editing), the following options:
- New Record --> nothing fancy here, just runs the classic newDetailViewRecord()
- Duplicate Selected Row to NEW: -> this i need to put in a button in the list in each row. Clicking on the button should create a new record in the detail view and populate the fields with the values from the currently selected row in the list.
I know i can do this with a series of getValue and setValue, the problem is i have some lists with hundreds of fields, it will take me ages to implement manually.

I would do it in an Ajax callback. The button in the row will give you the primary key, then go to Xbasic and duplicate the row in the database, returning the new primary key.. Then, refresh the list and set the new row as selected to the new primary key. If it is a very big table, you could even do it in a stored procedure to make it blindingly fast.

The problem is that i don't want to duplicate the row at the DB level, but rather open the detail view in "insert" mode, but fill-in all fields (to the exception of the primary key obviously) with data from the selected row when the button was clicked...

Then, I think you have to do it the hard was in JavaScript.

Hi,
I use a code to move data from one list to another.
I use the list object _data array to get the data from the list.
then using that array you can add it to that same list.

Something like that:

var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LSTBASKETDET');
var mlenght = lObj._data.length
for (i = 0; i < var mlenght; i++) {
}

Thanks Paul, i use the "list mover" code too, but i don't see how this helps in this scenario. Please note i have no problem achieving what i need "the hard way" (i.e .setValue to each specific control) , but am looking for a fast way to populate all the fields.

Thanks Pete, but as stated previously, i know how to do this "the hard way" but a series of getvalue and setvalue.
The problem is i have many ux with hundreds of fields, so i was looking for a fast populate method, much like the duplicateRepeatingSectionRow() function for instance.,,

State Variables are you using them? You can also emit them form the list on click inside the list. re: duplicateRepeatingSectionRow() function for instance - not used that for 5 years, now it's the VB. Anyhow hope it was useful to someone.
