Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Peter, check your timezone setting and clock. It is not correct even though it may initially appear to be. If you use the time.gov link in the error message, your system time should match the time displayed there within 10 minutes.

Thanks Lenny must have been the Server - only solution was to was to get all my development off it and request a server rebuild - all fine now, but can I ask, why does the AA development system need this?

The activation system uses WCF, which requires an accurate system clock in order to perform secure encryption. Without it, your system cannot even communicate with the activation system to request an activation packet.

Furthermore, activation leases are time-based, so both the server and client must agree on the meaning of "now" in order to ensure that the lease is applicable for the correct time period.

It is highly likely that you could have simply fixed your timezone and daylight savings settings, then synced with a reliable time server as opposed to rebuilding the whole system.

Just a few shots in the dark on the hopes of helping...

Pete, is that server part of a domain? Perhaps a DC has a policy that is syncing the time to a machine that is NOT tied to a reliable time server? Setting a server to Sync with Server 2012 and prior requires a command line action to start syncing to a time server.

Any chance the battery on the motherboard is weak, or dead?

Since you say 'Out of the blue', was the BIOS on said machine recently updated introducing a system board issue with time settings on the board?

          At least it's resolved.

I just had my client to buy 2 brand new servers with one on standby for reasons like you just had. A bunch of issues disappeared after we went from server 2012 that was an upgrade loaded on top of a bad 2008. While the hardware was brand new, an IT tech moved the old operating system over, crippling the brand new hardware.

One thing is for sure; AA will only be as stable as the machine it is loaded on.

Well i'm on Melbourne Time in Australia - and it was synced 1 minute with the Servers Internet time,
simply fixed your timezone and daylight savings settings, - did not happen
tell me you are geared to deal with server times outside the USA right?

All times used are timezone independent and the activation system works globally.

Where we have seen problems is when people travel to a different time zone and they adjust their displayed to match that new location's time but do not change the time zone. Similarly problems happen if they Windows DST setting does not match their region and they instead manually adjust their clock. Did you ever try visiting https://www.time.gov as the error message and I suggested?

Lenny I don't like your tone used in this comment, and find it offensive. - the answer is yes.

Is there a way to trap this error so that I can get a notification of this issue from alpha software or my app rather than forcing my client to deal with this annoying issue ?
