Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

a5SessionFile - generated report not found on mobile browsers (Build 5522)

Has something changed with how PDF reports are generated and accessed in more recent builds / do they no longer get generated in a5SessionFile etc?

We have one user who has, against their manager's advice, stubbornly kept using an Android tablet to access our very much aimed at desktop browsers (due to the sheer amount of data they need on screen/filter options they need to display for lists etc) Alpha-built website including a screen that is explicitly designed for desktop browsers as you are meant to view a PDF report on screen and fill in a form at the same time. This is not something mobile browsers allow as they always force you to download the PDF.

However, until recently they were able to somehow use a very much "built for a big screen" interface and download and open the PDFs and switch back and forth with the form sufficiently to get by. Now we finally updated to the latest build (we had been stuck on 5887_5315 for a year due to the problems with a lot of our UX lists etc), while explicitly opening such reports in another tab, the same thing on a mobile device does not work and they get the below error when they click on "Open". (Screenshot of the Open bit is from an older build where the opening still works so the changing temp file name is not the issue)

I, too, would love to find a fix for this but have been unsuccessful. I believe you can get around it using Phonegap by utilizing a feature called 'open pdf with native browser'. I've not been able to find a workaround in A/A though. To the best of my knowledge, I believe reports have always behaved this way on Android devices.

If it helps, your user can get around it by not clicking on the open button and instead long pressing the button and it will download the pdf file to their downloads folder allowing them to view it from there.

      Interesting, thank you!

I will have to try that and let them know!

It was certainly still working in 5887_5315 as we have one application running under that which works just fine with opening the file just by clicking the open button, but the issue was only noticed when we updated from this to the latest build.

You are absolutely correct. I just reverted my test server back to build 5864-5310 and clicking on the open button does not generate an error and opens the pdf file automatically. I will see if I can narrow it down to a more specific build and report it as a bug.

Excellent - I have passed on your workaround now to allow the one person to keep working - to be honest the tabbed UI we use on that part of the website is so awkward to use on a mobile device, until the one user complained we didn't think anyone was even able to use this on mobile!

We definitely don't encourage the use of mobile devices to access particularly this part of the site, given the assessment is meant to be filled in while looking at the PDF report side by side, but your workaround will at least allow them to keep working until they get their kit sorted :)

tabbed UI is a process people need to avoid it they want applications to be device independent in my view.

Agreed. As I have said repeatedly in this thread the site is very much NOT designed for anything other than desktop due to the sheer amount of data the users want to be on screen visible at the same time, and the need to display reports and other PDFs next to large forms that then need to be filled in based on these PDFs.

However one user keeps insisting on only using a mobile device, which is how we discovered that PDF reports generated on the website no longer open when the Open button is pressed (regardless off tabbed UI or not) but throw the A5Session folder error. This happens even in applications without tabbed UI.

Well not my side of it - nothing is Browser or Mobile - it's just both, who knows what device the user is using? - the error AA made was to announce panels as Mobile rather than just a better way to do it. If you want to fast tack it PM me.

My issue is specifically with the Open button in mobile browsers, and I have already received a workaround for this so all good - your videos do not appear to have any relevance to this issue.
