Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I just watched the video and it would be a great feature to implement for my users (very excited) but it seems to me that the control uses one Meeting ID which means that all the users would be sharing the same conference. Good for teams but bad for a web app that is shared by unaffiliated users. There may be a way to randomize the Meeting ID but I don't see any documentation on it. Any ideas?

I'm seeing this error - I'm going to wait before spending too much time on it. The Meeting ID can be set just like any other control.

Did you get the error using the downloaded components from the documentation? When I downloaded those everything worked well.

my guess is that you would set the value of the meeting ID using an argument (probably in the parent component) if you wanted it to be variable, giving you the ability to accomodate a multi-tenant application. Either way I think this is a great addition. AS - always fresh ideas!

Being able to create a MeetingID dynamically is pretty indispensable for even basic scenarios, e.g. employee A conferences with customer 1 while employee B separately conferences with customer 2 or for multi-tenant apps. If this functionality is needed right away (and can't be set in the new Alpha Jitsi component via argument), or if if like me you are a hobby/spec programmer who has been priced out of updates, it is relatively simple to integrate TokBox with Alpha and create video rooms with dynamic meetingIDs.

ecalan - Have you integrated TokBox into a mobile application? I see that they have been merged with Vonnage. Do you have any experience with their pricing?

As pointed out in the new video for Jitsi, there is a problem with iOS though I believe tokbox’s advanced option does work with iOS. My app does work with android using the basic system. The cost is very reasonable about 1/2 cent per subscribed minute with each participant subscribing to the others. So, 5 people is 5x4= 9 subscribed minutes per conference minute, which = 4.5 cents/minute for a 5 person conference.

If you leave the meeting id blank it asks for one - works well. Will look into changing the innerhtml of the page to pass a session value through.

Very nice on passing the session through when you get there Pete. I will also add having built dynamic meetingIDs that since there is usually an extra step for the user in getting to the final ID anyway (you have to acquire information about the other participant in 1-1 for example so that both use the same ID- a few clicks),entering a MeetingID if it is left blank in the component is not that much of an extra step. I just did a zoom meeting with a professional. I had to enter a meetingID. That is fairly common these days. So, great already! (Make sure that is in the documentation, lol).
