Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Injectible Container to 2 places

I have a UX with an Injectible Container and a ControlBar. The Injectible Container is an Accordion Control. What my goal is, to display the Injectible Container in 2 places based on Desktop or Mobile device.

So, what I've tried (is about everything) is making the Accordion Control into the Injectible Container. I then make the target type Placeholder which shows it in another container with the placeholder.

Works great so far in Desktop. But now I need to show it in Mobile as well in a Disclosure in the Controlbar.

So, I open by Controlbar and add the Injectible Container to the Disclosure, which opens with a button on the bar. Then, I use Javascript in the Responsive Settings to HIDE the Container that shows the desktop version with the Placeholder.

    With me so far?

I preview in Mobile and the Placeholder is hidden, and the Injectible Content shows up when you click the button on the Controlbar.

    Awesome, right?

Now, I go back to the Desktop preview and the container with the Placeholder is not shown. Darn. So, I've figured out that IF you put the Injectible Content into a Disclosure, you cannot show it anywhere else.

I've tried using the DIV display, Placeholders, Hide/show just about everything I can think of. I can't get it to show in both the Mobile Controlbar Button Disclosure AND the desktop.

At the end of the day, I want that Accordion Control to display on a desktop all the time, and also in a Mobile Device in a Controlbar Disclosure. thoughts?

Why not just put it in a panel card in a panel layout then dock it - then show it whenever you want.

Can I do that on an app written for desktop browser? (with responsive layout for mobile).

Yes and it can be un-docked to top, bottom left or right on demand. The biggest mistake an AA developer could make today is to not use Panels all the time - they work perfectly in any environmental, you never know what device a user will end up using to view what you build.

Cool. I will try that. I know I use them in one other app, but not as a rule or often. I didn't think it was wise for some reason. Thanks for the tip!

Just out of curiosity, Pete, are you talking about designing a website with one page and using the panels and panel navigator? If so, wouldn't that work against the SEO?

For me, the use of containers and responsive rules are the way to go. You can set teh width of containers based on the responsive rule set which if you set them to start with the desktop then downwards in width you will get the best results.Whatever is in them can be set to 100%!
