Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    UX tab label via JS

    How do I get the label for a tab (or its ID) programmatically?

    e.g. something like this:
    Code:
    var obj = {dialog.object}._tabInfo('TAB_1');
    alert(obj.label);

    This is a bit ugly but it worked for me.

    var ele=document.getElementById("DLG1.V.R1.TAB_1.0.TAB").innerHTML;
    alert(ele);

      Sorry, my fault. I wasn't clear. I need the label or id or both for the current Pane.

      Thx

        Still a little bit dirty but this returns both:

        The javascript index starts at 0 so you have to subtract 1 from the value returned from {dialog.object}._tabInfo('TAB_1');.

        var ele=document.getElementById("DLG1.V.R1.TAB_1.0.TAB").innerHTML;
        alert('TAB HTML is:' + ele);

        var eletabid={dialog.object}._tabInfo('TAB_1');
        var eleindex = (eletabid.currentPane - 1);
        alert('TAB ID is DLG1.V.R1.TAB_1.' + eleindex);

          Thanks Luther, but that still isn't returning the current tab pane label (or the current tab pane id).

            just a refinement on luther's code.

                Re: UX tab label via JS

                Okay guys. That doesn't work on localhost nor on the live website. However this does:

                var tabLabel =$('COMPONENT_NAME_MEMBER_COV_ORUW.V.R1.TAB_1.' + tabIndex +'.TAB').innerHTML;

                But that doesn't work in live or working preview which I need to develop (which means I have to rem code depending upon where I am).

                So what I need is a placeholder for:
                COMPONENT_NAME_MEMBER_COV_ORUW

                Neither {dialog.object} nor {dialog.ComponentName} works.

                Note; this UX is a window popup off a grid, FWIW.

                Anybody have an idea?

                  Peter,
                  {dialog.ComponentName} should work but make sure you put that placeholder enclosed in the apostrophes.

                  alert($('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.TAB_1.1.TAB').innerHTML);

                    That's the secret. The apostrophes. That seems to work under all scenarios. Thanks Frank.

                      Re: UX tab label via JS

                      I don't mind going after the DOM if it's really necessary. Most of the time I'd rather use the tools that Alpha gives us. I know it ends up being the same thing in the end... but... sometimes it just feels cleaner.

                      The Tab control in the UX is a control and is rendered as an Object of the Dialog Object (the UX). So... get a pointer to that control... and you've got all the properties of that control Object.

                      Code:
                      var tObj = {dialog.Object}.getControl('TAB_1');
                      var currTabIndex = tObj._curTabIndx;
                      var currTabLabel = tObj.panes[currTabIndex].html;
                      ._curTabIndx is a property of the Tab Controls. It carries the currently selected tab... zero based.
                      .panes is an Array of all the Tab Control Panes that you created. It carries the info about the panes.
                      .html is a property of the .panes array

                      Once you've got the _currTabIndx, use it to access the panes array... and then access the .html property for that pane.
