Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    UX update view (MySql)

I have a list w. a detail in a UX. The list is based upon a view. When I open the detail window, make a change and submit, I get an error. The value does save to the table. Is there an issue with trying to update a view using a list-detail in a UX? If there is, how can I update the table in the view w/o returning an error?

Also: In WP I get lobj undefined (obviously it's defined).

What is the error you're getting?

The main table of a view is updatable. E.g. An Order table has a ClientId. You create a View to show the Order Info and the Client Name. The Order Info is updateable. The Client Name is not. If you tried to edit the Client Name you'd get an error that the "view" is not updateable because the modification affects multiple base tables. I'm believe this is the same for SQL Server and MySQL.

      The error is:
"Can not modify more than one table through a join view..."

MySQL allows you to update a view but there are a bunch of restrictions: https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.6...atability.html

I'm good on those. BTW: this works in a grid w. no error.

And again, it does save the value, but I get the A5 error.

        Re: UX update view (MySql)

I just built some test UX components under MySQL and SQL Server. The views themselves are updateable using Navicat. The UX components, which contains just 1 List, based on a view, are fully updateable.

However, in a project I just completed, where a view is used, the secondary table is not updateable... Which is what you're finding.

So... I just built a new UX, based on the same View (which I thought was not updateable)... and everything is updateable... no errors. Not sure what's going on. I'm using build 2818.

              Re: UX update view (MySql)

Has anyone come up with an answer for this ?
I have several views created in MySQL (MariaDB) used in Lists on UX's
Until today they have worked fine (able to update rows in list and save to underlying SQL tables thru the views
I can still update directly by using the HeidiSQL viewer (update view and all tables are updated)
This has worked from Alpha for several months with several different Lists/Views
but today I started getting the error Database error . 1393 - 'Can not modify more than one base table through a join view 'bb728_inspections.alm_view''
It says it is a database error, but since it works from the database, I don't think so

I have tried creating simplified test Lists to factor out something on my app's, and tried the same using a grid, and using a callback to a Sql Update function
              all with the same results

very frustrating when something that has been working just quits
wonder if it's the last Alpha update, not sure if I have tried it sine I installed it

                Re: UX update view (MySql)

After further testing I figured out that I can update tables in view thru list updates, but you can only update fields from one table in the view at a time, since the list doesn't know which table each field is in that would seem to indicate I can't use the built in synchronizeLists() method but will have to do it thru an ajax callback and separate the updates to each table manually, sounds like a lot of work, if anyone has done this HELP ?

                  Re: UX update view (MySql)

If you recreate your view in the List's sql definition, that should work.

in the SQL definition I'm using a named connection to the database and SELECT* FROM insp_spl_view as the sql statement

Understood. But you can probably copy the view definition into the sql statement part of the UX List and that should allow you to update fields as needed.

                        Re: UX update view (MySql)

I did think about that but didn't try it because the reason for the view is the tables are in different databases and I didn't think it would work in Alpha (works on the Sql side)
Just tried it and although the view does load and display the records it won't let me edit the detail properties and won't save back to the Sql for either table
I'm working on my workaround to save each table separately, may not be as hard as I thought, I hope
                        Tanks for the help

Maybe something like this will work:

                          db1.customers.cust_name
                          db2.invoices.inv_num

Haven't tried that in Alpha, but it might work.

                              Re: UX update view (MySql)

I could get it to work sometimes if I only update fields from one table in the view at a time, but it still sometimes fails so I'm opting for a callback to update the tables
I used the methods in video UX_V12_113, filtered it to the dirty rows in XBasic and dynamically created a Sql update for each table/row with dirty fields
had to make sure I formatted the arguments from alpha to sql data types, but after a lot of testing it works, and should be easy to modify for my other views
quicker than I thought, but easier than having multiple lists to handle data from multiple tables on one UX
