Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Map Properties

I am new to Alpha and have downloaded the 'Community' version to get some experience in the application. I have worked through the 'Giantkiller' training material which was generally excellent.

Question - I have created an API code in Google for the Map object and it successfully displays a map of Boston, USA and longitude=0/ latitude=0 in the panel but no other areas when a new address is entered. If I build a UK address & post code and set the object's properties to 'Address' it still displays Boston and longitude=0/latitude=0. I have entered random longitude/ latitude to confirm the correct map can be displayed.

I assume that one of the map properties are incorrect but cannot identify from the tutorial or help videos.

Any suggestions would ne greatly appreciated.

If you run the giant-killer sample does the map show different addresses?
How are you displaying and setting the map address?

Here's a simple UX using action script to display No 10

      Hi.

Many thanks for your reply apologies for tardy response.

Have replicated your suggestion but still have issue. Problem still seems to be that although the post code is constructed in the java action the value is not passed to the map object before it opens. The map object only has longitude and latitude options but no field for the post code entry consequently it never opens the correct map. I have inserted alerts to confirm the address details in the javascript action and when the map page opens. If I manually insert longitude and latitude in the map object it opens correctly to correct area regardless of the coordinates in the javascript action.

There seems to be a total disconnect between the action and the map opening - what am I misunderstanding?

I have included some screen shots to show where I am at.

      Many thanks,

      Laurence

Check that the runAction is being executed and no javascript errors are being generated.

The Runaction is being executed as when I manually enter coordinates in the map object and execute the Runaction command the map opens with correct display, The issue still seems to be that the Google component does not convert from address to longitude/ latitude. I have attached some screen shots to illustrate the issue, I do not understand what the javascript console is telling me as this is a completely new area.

          Many thanks.

Yes. the map initial position does not work for me either. Not sure what that does or how it works. Could be an issue with Alpha, Google, or a configuration issue.
If you are using the Add a marker to the map action however you can select the property Bring marker into view.
