Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    SQL Syntax for Lookup Filter?

    image_46062.jpg

    Is that not the correct syntax to use in the lookup filter?

    Sorry, part of my original post got cut off and then I couldn't edit. It said:

    I have an active-link grid with a field called "Repagency," and a session variable argument called "Repagency." The grid is filtered to that argument and it works fine. But I have a Edit-Combo lookup on one of the grid fields that also needs to be filtered by the session variable. I used the syntax in the picture above but it returns no records. Am I entering the filter incorrectly?

      Try changing the "Load Data Method" property to Ajax Callback. There is a bug, depending on your version of Alpha, that breaks this if I recall correctly.

        Thanks Mike, but I tried that and the result when I tested a search was "undefined." I also tried using the syntax of repagency=session.repagency, as that is shown at the bottom of the screen, but that didn't work either:

          This might sound too simple, but have you confirmed the session variable is the value you expect it to be ?

            repagancy = session.repagancy - your example is filtering on an Argument.

              Madtowng I have this as my grid filter and it works fine:

              Pete Conway, what should I be filtering on? I've tried repagency=session.repagency and repagency =:REPAGENCY, and neither one works.

                If you have your :REPAGENCY ARGUMENT based on the value of your SESSION.REPAGENCY then argument will work, if you don't have an argument then SESSION.REPAGENCY will work - remember ARUMENTS NAMES AND SESSIONS NEED TO BE UPPERCASE.

                  Pete this is my argument:
                  Screen Shot 12-13-20 at 08.46 PM.JPG

                  It works fine as repagency = :REPAGENCY in the grid, but in the Edit-Combo search field I've tried:

                  repagency = :REPAGENCY
                  REPAGENCY = :REPAGENCY
                  repagency = session.repagency
                  repagency = SESSION.REPAGENCY
                  REPAGENCY = SESSION.REPAGENCY

                  and none of them work, no matter if the Load Method is Ajax Callback or At Render Time. What am I doing wrong?

                    I filter lookups in a similar way and they work just fine using something like
                    fielda = session.myvar
                    Something else must be in play here, create a new UX and create just the dropdown and the argument. If your still having an issue post the UX here. I am sure we'll be able to help or direct you to AS for a bug fix if needed but either way this should work as expected.

                      This is a grid component, not a UX, but the filter should work the same way, correct?

                        And now I'm convinced that this must have to do with me not entering the syntax correctly, because (as a test), I switched the source of the lookup data to an old DBF table, and it works fine with that session variable entered, as shown below. It's just when I switch to AlphaDAO that I can't make it work.

                          Rich - keep it simple, now you are using session_protected_variables ? All I can say is get the session value into an Argument and use the argument as the filter.

                            Okay I finally got it working. (Many thanks to Jay Talbott)

                            The correct syntax for the filter was Repagency = session.__protected__Repagency

                            But I also had to put Repagency = session.__protected__Repagency in the OnGridInitialize section of the Server-Side Events.

                              Capture.PNG Hi Rich,
                              I try to swing for the low-hanging fruit first.
                              Knowing the session variable is already set, why not just use the session variable in the filter ? ie: repagency = session.repagency
                              I configured a grid to test edit-combo field settings as shown in this pic, but the best way to get the problem resolved is to use
                              your grid in your project. There is often something seen at that point which would help get to the bottom of things.
