How to call a simple Rest API?

I need to call an extremely simple REST api, successfully tested in Postman, but don't know how to call it from AA. Tried building a consumer class (in the Web Services section ) but do not understand how to add a provider for authentication (they use Basic Auth with just username and password ), i don't even know if i need to use and oAuth provider or API provider.
The API is defined as follow:

Authorization: Basic Auth, two fields: Username and Password
Headers: Content-Type: text/plain
Body: a small json string

I think it will be easier in this case to use http_get() or http_post() functions but don't know how to apply in this scenario, i.e how to pass the authentication headers to the function call...Will lookup in the meantime :-)

It's been a while, but I think Postman shows you the command it uses.
Using openweathermap's API as an example : api.openweathermap.org/data/2.5/weather?q={city name},{state code}&appid={API key},
the code would look something like shown below.

I ended up using http_fetch, was quite simple to implement, even setting headers etc...

Glad you got it working.
I failed to mention my solution works with V11, and that I use it for more complicated APIs.
The bad news is the APIs I have worked with consider the information proprietary, limiting me to
sharing my work with people that work directly with them or directly for me (Peoplenet and Samsara).
The weathermap API is simply one available to the general public that I've worked with.
