Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    sys_shell_wait works on windows server 2012 not on windows server 2019

    We are in the proces of changing our server from windows server 2012 to windows server 2019.
    We use sys_shell_wait to zip a folder with files.
    SYS_SHELL_wait("C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe a "+strfilename+" "+strdirname+"\*", .F.)
    This works like a charm on the old server but not on the new server.
    (7-zip is installed ofcourse)
    Executing the command on the server is no problem. (Ok I added " for extra quotest around c:\program files\7-zip\7z.exe but that didn't solve it either)
    So I tried:
    SYS_SHELL_wait("Copy c:\temp\test.bat c:\temp\test\test.bat", .F.)
    Didn't work either.
    Executing this in a dos box works like a charm.

    Has anybody a clue what to look for?
    How to work around it?
    We are still on version 4.6.1.9 so the new zip_folder function in alpha is not available :(

    Thanks for any clues

    Pieter

    Hi Peter,
    I don't have server2019 to play with, but will wait_until(file.exists("c:\<zipped">)) do as a work around?

        what about using Alpha's file.zip function ? https://documentation.alphasoftware....zip%20function
        The example < FILE.ZIP("c:\backup.ZIP","c:\a5data\invoice\*.*") > looks like it'll do what you want.

          It only zips the files in the current folder not in the subfolders :(
          Thanks for trying.

            ok. Try this.
            obviously, you'll have to make some minor adjustments.
            Code:
            dim baseSaveTo as c = "c:\alpha5\backups"
            dim baseBackup as c
            dim fileList as c
            dim dirList as c
            dim itsZipped as l
            texttospeech("doing it now")
            baseBackup = api_getenvironmentvar("userprofile")+"\downloads"
            fileList = filefind.get_recurse(baseBackup,"*.*",FILE_FIND_NOT_DIRECTORY,"pn")
            fileList = crlf_to_comma(fileList)
            itsZipped = file.zip(baseSaveTo+"\archive.zip",fileList,"d")
            texttospeech("finished")
            debug(1)

                Try running your command with sys_shell_result(). sys_shell_result() will return the call result. If an error is occurring, this will give you more information.

                  My first thought is that if:

                  SYS_SHELL_wait("Copy c:\temp\test.bat c:\temp\test\test.bat", .F.)

                  did not work, it's a permissions issue.

                  Try WIN_SPECIAL_FOLDER(), or hardcode a folder INSIDE the profile. (I suggest using WIN_SPECIAL_FOLDER() for mobility down the road...)

                    Thanks everyone for their input.
                    We found the problem.
                    It is the virusscanner Windows Defender.
                    If real-time protection is enable it is not working.
                    If it is disabled then it is working.
                    The exclusion didn't work either.
                    So I guess we will have to go for another virusscanner.
