Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Using finger to scroll a list control in mobile app no longer working.

    Hello!

I created a mobile app and I have a list control that makes up most of the screen. When one of the items in the list is clicked it opens another panel that contains the detail view of that last item.

I've been testing first on working preview then by publishing and testing it in the browser. In working preview I can use my mouse to scroll the list just fine. When I publish and try this on the web it will not allow me to scroll, it just selects whichever item I unlick on and opens the detail view.
This was working correctly until yesterday, and after searching my project and the internet I cannot find what changed to make it stop doing that. This is mainly a mobile app, but will also be used occasionally on the web and needs the scroll functionality of the mouse.

To help potentially narrow this down, I tried out two things recently:
    1) I checked the "add list navigator" option in List Properties to see how that worked. I didn't like it and unchecked it.
    2) I checked "has scroller" in the List Scroller option under List Properties. I didn't like this either and unchecked it.

I'm pretty sure that's when I started having issues, and my guess is something with the "has scroller" option maybe left an artifact somewhere in the settings that messed with the drag to scroll functionality.

Does anyone have any insight into what I might have done to trigger this? I'm not sure where to look at this point and we need to deploy this live asap. It's probably something I changed when testing.

    Thanks for any help!

Also, I should add that this is not actually going to be deployed as a mobile app. The user will just navigate to the webpage on their phone, and I want it to behave like a mobile app (drag scrolling the list instead of just selecting the item I let off of).

This works on the working preview that is simulating a mobile app, and used to work on the html page when I published the app as well. Now it just shows a scroll bar on the right side. I guess worst case I can just make a thick scroller bar on the right side and have them use that. That wouldn't be ideal though, especially since it was working fine.

Hi Nate, I'm a bit confused by this. On a ux list control drag scrolling is already enabled by default. If you have the list inside a container...that can be the problem. Remove the container and let the list fill the whole panel card. Under list properties there is a setting called "Fill Container". Try that and let me know how it goes.

I'm confused myself, because it was working before and now it is not. I would like to use the fill option, but I also need the search components in the same panel card as the list (search textbox and the search and clear filter buttons below it). The search functionality all works fine but when I press the "fill" option on the list it complains that it is not the only component in the panel card. Is there a way to have a list fill the panel card while also having search functionality? That would be the ideal solution

When I set the container the search components are currently in to a panel header it seems to be okay but then I lose all of the UI formatting. Doing this, then switching the list to "fill" still does not allow drag scrolling when I access the app from a browser. Frustrating stuff!

You can use PanelLayout to setup the layout with multiple panel cards in the same view. This should accomplish what you want. Then use the fill container option.

Ah, that is great advice. As you can probably tell, I am new to the whole panel method of UI. I just figured out the layout and docking panels and the app will look much better. I'm still struggling with the dragging the list not working when accessing the app through the browser on the development server, but all my other issues are slowly being fixed. Thanks for the advice on that!
