Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Image Disappears on Mobile after Sync

I am working on a mobile app to collect data in the field and have something interesting happening. I am connected to a sql server database on Zebra Host. When I do a live or working preview the pictures show up. See Picture 1 attached. When I do a remote test to my phone, the pictures are not showing. See Picture 2. When on remote test I can add a new picture, take it and it shows up when I save. See picture 3. When I Sync the picture goes away. See picture 4.
I built a Desktop List with detail view and everything shows up on it. Any of you mobile image capture experts have an idea of what is going on?

When you say the picture "goes away" do you mean it is NOT saved to the DB? Or do you mean, it's in the DB but it does not show up when running from a remote host? what does the data look like in the DB? Can you manually insert an image (path?) into the DB and then see it when connecting remotely? This could be several things. Perhaps the image is being stored incorrectly, or not stored at all. Live & working preview indicates you have access to the relative path the images might be stored in - when running remotely you may not, which is why I am wondering what the actual data might look like in the DB field value for the image.

It is not showing up on the phone as soon as I hit Sync. It does show what looks like an image. The name is showing in the database. Right now it is a database on my ZebraHost server, but I have not yet set it to store pictures there. In the attached clip you can see the storage name is local. So my assumption is either that is the problem or something with the way I have it set up in the control.

Well, not really - everything is basically correct in some terms however you just don't have permissions to access that folder remotely. The live preview folder is strictly for testing locally and not remotely. You should set up a folder to store the images in your webroot not the live preview folder when uploading. Security is pretty much the same way, there's just some things that you really need to deploy to test - personally I setup my domain and publish live to test - I just like knowing it all works as expected, and you can always publish a random page to test to so you don't have to affect users if you are live with an application. I decided right from the beginning I would develop that way but sometimes still use live and working preview but mostly when I am working on the layout. Someone else can probably shed more light on what your going through but again, if the image is in that folder - you probably don't have access to it remotely. If you open dev tools in chrome you will probably see a 404 for the image - the place holder is strictly an image placeholder from the html saying that it's expecting an img
