Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha Anywhere Web App Validations How to Expand Lookup and Fill In Fields / Javascript

    Thanks to the experts for helping me gain clarity on the workings of my jointly developed app. While I now have a better handle on this, further evolving the functionality of the app leads to Alpha Anywhere territory unfamiliar to me.

    How to Expand Lookup and Fill In Fields or Add Javascript

    Panel 1 contains two fields and a search button.

    The search button has the following Javascript Lookup and Fill and Lookup click event shown below. This is finding the record in the warReg table matching the Customer (customer_i) and Serial Number ( serial_no_search). If found, a number of linking warrReg table fields are filled in. If not found, a messageRegistration data not found in system...please re-enter... is displayed.

    This is working, but the validation on the serial number must also allow only not previously registered serial numbers.

    If registered = .T. for a found record, a message Serial number entered is already registered please re-entermust be displayed.

    If registered = .F. , the user may proceed to the next panel.

    While there are likely a number of ways to accomplish this, I have not found any discussions or videos that cover this simple situation.

    Can anyone help with this?

    it looks like you're bumping into the limitations of this action js genie unless you'd choose the option to preserve data & display a message "serial n not found or already registered"

    Alternatively you'll have to write your own ajax callback function & then you have all the freedom to code whatever you want.

      Re: Alpha Anywhere Web App Validations How to Expand Lookup and Fill In Fields / Javascript

      I am OK with as single message: "serial n not found or already registered". I added a new variable to the form, Registered_search and set the default value to .F. and added Registered_search to the lookup. Now i get the lookup's message "Registration data not found in system or serial number already registered...please re-enter..."

      This lookup should find the serial number as it did before. Any suggestions. Is there a debug option to observe the values used by the lookup?

      New coding Required:

      If the first serial number is valid, the user may enter up to eight serial numbers total, along with some new fields on panel 2. When the user clicks the Complete Registration button on panel 3, the entered serial numbers and the new fields are inserted into a Registration table as a new record. Registered =.T. and Datereg = DATE() are also included on each new Registration record. Records in the warrReg table matching the entered serial numbers must be updated with Registered =.T. and Datereg = DATE() in the warrReg table. (Note: By "Update" I simply mean... change the value of the fields in the table.)

      Some of the necessary coding for table updating already exists. This app just needs a few tweaks to update the registered and dateReg fields But adding these tweaks is beyond my current expertise with Alpha Anywhere. I really need a mentor.

        What sets it to true? .T.

          Re: Alpha Anywhere Web App Validations How to Expand Lookup and Fill In Fields / Javascript

          BTW, the lookup is now working. the lookup is searching for customer_i_search (value entered), serial_no_search (value entered) and registered (default value = .F.)

          warrReg.registered needs to be set to .T. when the user clicks Complete Registration button) on panel #3.
          the following server side code below updates the Registered table. warrReg.registered is on the form (hidden) with default valuer set to .T.

          should adding code take care of Registration.registered:
          update.expr16 = "Registered"
          update.expr16 = "'" + e.datasubmitted.registerd + "'"

          I do not know where the suffix 16 comes from after update.expr. I just chose the next available number.

          '-- Update Master serial number
          tbl = table.open("warrreg")
          'Define a query so that only selected records are updated.
          'query.filter = "Serial_no = " + e.datasubmitted.serial_no + " .AND. Sales_orde = " + e.datasubmitted.Sales_orde + " .AND. Customer_i = '" + e.datasubmitted.Customer_i + "'"
          query.filter = "Serial_no = " + e.datasubmitted.serial_no + " .AND. Customer_i = '" + e.datasubmitted.Customer_i + "'"

          query.order = ""
          query.options = ""
          indx = tbl.query_create() '-- Create query.
          update.fields = 2
          update.field1 = "Dealer"
          update.expr1 = "'" + e.datasubmitted.dealer + "'"
          update.field2 = "End_Users"
          update.expr2 = "'" + e.datasubmitted.end_users + "'"
          testShipDate = "1/1/2000"
          update.field3 = "Ship_Date"
          '--update.expr3 = "'" + e.datasubmitted.ship_date + "'"
          update.expr3 = "'" + testShipDate + "'"
          update.field4 = "Vehicle_Vi"
          update.expr4 = "'" + e.datasubmitted.vehicle_vi + "'"
          update.field5 = "Install_Da"
          update.expr5 = "'" + e.datasubmitted.install_da + "'"
          update.field6 = "Comment"
          update.expr6 = "'" + e.datasubmitted.comment + "'"
          update.field7 = "Comment"
          update.expr7 = "'" + e.datasubmitted.comment + "'"
