Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How do you get the primary key ID of each record after a successful save on an in-list edit

    I am doing an in list edit where I am entering several new records at once.

    I want to run some xbasic for each individual record both before and after they are actually inserted into the sql table. (ie: during a detail view list sync)

    In a grid the events would be caninsertrecord and afterinsertrecord

    The before event will look up some information to insert with the record, the after event will be to add records in other tables once the record is inserted.

    Of course, I also need to be able to grab the primary key of the record just inserted.

    In the server side event of the detail view there is an after synchronize record event which looks promising, but I don't see how to get the key value of the synched record from in there.

    Normally, I would handle most of this with a sql trigger, but I can't do that in this case to stay compatible with the rest of the system.

    Currently working on something that might point you in a way to do this(?):

    step 1. use {dialog.object}.getListData(UXListName); to give the listdata by function xb callback to serverside (see documentation)
    step 2. put it in a pointer and do serverside what you need
    step 3. don't store the result of step 2 using xbasic, but give the result back to clientside directly in the list and let the list store the data. see javascript method addTableRowsBulk().

    For example (step 3):

    Code:
    dim jsReturn as C
    jsReturn = "var listObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('Docusign');listObj.addTableRowsBulk(" + pSignJson + ");{dialog.object}.saveListEdits('DOCUSIGN',{rows: 'allRows'});"
    xb = jsReturn

      I am initially putting the information in there with addtablerowsbulk. What you are suggesting is that I then edit the data all I want, pull it all back out modify it some more, then put it all back and synchronize?

      Though, if I'm going to do all that, I may as well save the data serverside and be done with it. That will also fix my other issue of not being able to get the key value. From server side, as I save each record I can get the key.

      I will give that a try later today and report back.

        I tried what you suggested. The getlistdata function is returning the same wrong information. It only sees what was initially put into the list, it doesn't see the manual changes. I think there is some kind of a disconnect between the virtual fields in the inline edit and the fields in the detail view.

        full disclosure: I am using the Dec 6 version of Alpha. Will install the latest version to see if that makes a difference.

          Yes that works (i expected to ), just understood that you wanted for some reason the data back clientside before storing it to the database. If that is not necessary of course storing directly is what I would to also. And if you wish limit the return to a refresh of the list...

              Ok, I figured out what I was doing wrong. First of all, I was not saving the individual rows after editing them. Synching only commits what was saved for each row. Also, in the after synch record event of the detail view you CAN see the primary key. I just wasn't looking hard enough at the e.data values.
