Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Import Records 1292 Error Incorrect date value

    Man has this got me stumped.

    I am importing records into a MySql table (in a grid with an action button)
    using the Action Javascript "Import Data from Excel or Ascii file"

    the offending field is a DATE type format. (offending is a mild term...)

    No matter what I try, I keep getting this error.
    Error. Error importing records. The error reported was: Database API specific error Your database has returned the following error code and description to Alpha Five. Consult your database documentation for further information. 1292 - 'Incorrect date value: '{01/07/2014}' for column 'Date' at row 1'

    So I tried to use about all the functions I could in this Xbasic function
    dim t as p
    t = table.open(e.inputFilename)
    t.batch_begin()

    dim i as n
    dim count as n
    count = t.records_get()
    for i = 1 to count
    t.change_begin()
    t.date = ctod(t.date) 'I have tried all the built in functions I could find. in the date time help section and although they did alter the error a little - nothing has worked to allow me to import any records. Including a blank value, and yes I have unchecked Honor Grid rules...
    t.change_end(.t.)
    t.fetch_next()
    next i
    t.batch_end()
    t.close()

    I am importing a CSV file and the date field contains a value 1/7/2014
    I have tried to format it in excel as a date as well as a general format and as I said I have tried to convert a string, and many other variations of date time functions but cannot seem to import a date field in a MySql table.

    Can anyone give me a clue here? MANY thanks in advance!
    Also I tried to import without any xbasic first then tried the xbasic stuff.

    Re: Import Records 1292 Error Incorrect date value

    Charles,

    The problem is that mysql doesn't recognize '{01/07/2014}' as a date. I guess it expects something like '2014-07-01'
    I guess u have a grid where the imported records go to.
    Can u manually enter a record into this grid and save it?
    If no then your problem is not with your file but with your grid and datadefinition.

      Re: Import Records 1292 Error Incorrect date value

      The grid is working fine and in use daily. I can't figure out what I should put in the date field of the CSV file to be acceptable, either initially or by trying to convert it like in the xbasic.

      If I remove the "date" field (and of course the xbasic) it imports perfectly.
      I can't imagine that this hasn't been addressed in the past.

      Is anyone else doing this succesfully?
      The process would be to have a grid with a date field and a MySql backend with a Date field (Date-data type)
      And import via the built in action script without error.

        Re: Import Records 1292 Error Incorrect date value

        Pieter suggested '2014-07-01' and googling MySQL date seems to agree with him.

        In Excel that would be a custom format yyyy-mm-dd
        There can be only one.

          I tried that scenario as well, I am using a pre release so perhaps it's a bug. I just wanted some confirmation from you more experienced folks.

            Re: Import Records 1292 Error Incorrect date value

            hi Charles,

            I am on version 11.
            And succesfully import into a grid with a date filed based on a Mysql backend with a datatype date field
            Import via the built in acton script.

            import1.jpg

            The afterupload performs an ajaxcallback to process the uploaded records.

            My process is to import them directly into a (temp) table and then process them to another table.
            The user has a grid based on this other table to edit etc.

            so what happens if you don't import to the grid but to the table?

              Re: Import Records 1292 Error Incorrect date value

              How about using the format_data(*your date here*, "12-")

              as in format_data({01/07/2014},"12-")

              in your Xbasic script.

                Jay, I have seen your use of stuff like that in other code, but I do not understand it exactly.
                what does the 12 and the - sign mean (do) in this statement? 12 char?

                pieter, I do like your approach with the temp table. I am going to work on this again as this is pretty important when people are trying to import quickbooks customers and the date field is being a real - {expletive}

                  Re: Import Records 1292 Error Incorrect date value

                  The 12- is Alpha's internal code to format at date so it becomes "YYYY-MM-DD" which is what many SQL tables use.
                  From the interactive window:

                  Hope that helps.
