Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

own search bar - how can I do

    Hi,
what is the best approach to build my own search bar in web alpha application (like google search bar)?
My idea this one single bar in main page and the search happens in some ux bind components.

    Please, some ideia?

    Tks

What is it searching? Are you searching for records in a database or from HTML/A5W pages (like the Google bar would do)?

      Thanks Steve,
I want to search records in diferent database tables. It will be a "global search", not one search for earch table. The effect is "like a google" that search all in the system. ;-)

Re: own search bar - how can I do

Then you probably have to write the script to do this. I don't know of any function to "search the entire database for 'xyz' and return something". A "Google search" would search some number of HTML/A5W pages that have that content on them, either hard coded or dynamic from the database. If your text is not already on an HTML/A5W page, then you have to think through what you want to search and what you want it to return. Like do you want it to return a link to a full record, or some body of text that included the search values, etc? You would have to include in your script exactly what tables/fields you want to search and what you to return.

Now, if you design a Grid based on table joins you could use the Quick Search option (see grid properties) to search any field in any of the joined tables using a single entry search field. That is a feature of the Grid, not the UX.

But you said search the "all in the system" and I know the Quick Search is not going to get you that far unless you have a very small set of tables.

You could create a view in your database based on the fields in the different tables that you'd like to be searched. Then you are searching one table for everything. You could customize the view to have URLs to the field that meets the criteria or whatever.

Good idea Jinx, thanks. I was thinking to use Lookup component with auto-suggest list, but it's permited search in a single field. Maybe the Steve's idea that to use one Grid - Quick Search option would be good. A Grid based in a database view. Will I have a search bar like Google? I want to put the bar in top of my tabbedUI component. I want to return a link to one record opening a UXComponent to edit that record. I put one constant in database view that show me what kind of register is returned. Then I can call the specific UX component. But, do you have idea that how can I configure this "URLs" or "links"? Regards

I wonder if the feature for Keyword Search of a List Control based on a view will help you?
