Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

List only shows the last record inserted

This has happened to me twice in the last two days.

I build a simple list control (either table based or custom query, doesn't matter). I've tried all kinds of pagination settings (fetch more, navigation buttons, no pagination at all), however when my list renders in live preview or in a live application it only shows a single record. The last record inserted. I can't see any additional records. I know they are there and can copy the query and run directly in sql and get multiple records.

Just wondering if anyone else has come across this.

    Thanks,
    Jeremy

What happens if you do a preview from inside the query setup of the list?

Build 7295 and Build 7715. I rebuilt the component from scratch and slowly added things back until it broke again. Turns out it has something to do with the OnItemDraw event that I was using to enable a popup message when you hover over a field in the list. I've done this in many places so I'm not sure if it broke all instances but all look at that today and if so report a bug.

Unfortunately we've been using list controls for any new development for almost a year now so not using them is not an option. I'm still stuck on Version 7295 which is 5 iterations old because of issues I've had with builds 7554, 7564, 7704, 7715. Many of which are unrelated. I've tried updating and thankfully the process for rolling back is somewhat straight forward but my end users aren't overly happy.

Either it has to work and be tested or a better explanation of what's broke between versions needs to be meticulously spelled out. I understand the complexity and would expect "regressions" here and there but every version and being forced to run a 5 version old code set because the 4 "official release" versions after do not work is costing me a lot of time.

This pretty much sums up the whole upgrade experience with Alpha. Everybody complains about it but they won't change anything. I can't upgrade from 7582 at the moment because the official and pre-release builds have all caused issues for me. When you have a large application on a live system, it's basically hold your breath and hope the damage isn't too severe!

                Here, Here!

I'm also in 7295 - it's running stable for me. But I'd really like to try out some of the recent additions, if only I could upgrade without breaking some things.

However, Alpha is also good at fixing things. If you can provide them a test case, they will generally get it fixed very quickly. The trouble then is waiting until the next version comes out. (And you never know when that will be.)
