Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Edit-Combo has Blank Selection

    Build 7715

I have a textbox control set as an edit-combo lookup. I have the "User must select from list" checkbox checked.

The list is populated from a database using the "Dynamic" option.

But in the list, there is a blank space as the first item, and it can be selected, setting the value of the control to blank.

How can I get rid of the space?

I'm not seeing that in the 7582 with default settings and Alpha style. Looks like you have changed the style perhaps? Are you using your own css?

I just tested it in 7715 and Alpha style. The space is there. May be an Alpha bug.

I'd try two things 1.User must select from list checkbox 2. make certain a null or record with a blank or null field is not being returned.

Here is a UX with an edit-combo using the Northwinds Customer table. The connection string must be modified to test.
I would be interested to know if anyone sees the blank row, or not, and in which builds.

UX Component - Edit-combo - User Must Select From List - A blank item is now automatically added at the top of the List so that the user can de-select a previous selection. This is also implemented for List in-place editing.
This is in the release note of : Alpha Anywhere V4.6.3.0 - 7704-5578 28 MAY-2021

I just spent 15 minutes working with your UX, Pete. It looks like I can get it to do what I need. It is a great example of a ViewBox.

I wish, as you suggest, that Alpha would make the blank row an option that can be toggled on and off.

This issue is causing havoc all through my application. In many of my edit-combos I don't ever want the control to be blank.

The drop-down control has the same blank row, but it can be toggled on or off by setting the "Not in list rule" to "Do Nothing".

                  Thanks, Pete!

FYI: this has been addressed in Build 7851. There is now an option for dynamic edit-combo lookups to not include a blank value in choices:

Thanks for this Pete, never thought of using a viewbox in this way.

Do you know of a way to dynamically choose an item from the viewbox list as you can by typing in the edit combo EC_2 with it set to progressive? My viewbox would have a lot of entries in the list.

Very nice Pete. This is something I'll need to look into in the near future.

Using Pete's example I found another issue with Alpha adding a blank line: Display Templates.

See screenshot below....that's ugly. This blank line business really should have been a property we can select and NOT forced on us.

I sent in an enhancement request to make this blank line a property we can select and to not just have it automatically added. Selwyn says Alpha's made that change and it'll be in tomorrow build.
