Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I agree 2000 as a general rule is too short. When your making a web app that is supposed to work around the country you run into cellular devices and areas that need more like 5000 or even 10 before you should give up. I had to set a lot of my timeouts at about 7 to ensure even the slow connections will complete a callback especially when the action is happening behind the scenes in a sense.

Always always always in cases like this they should default to the setting that has the least impact and allow the developer to determine if they'd like to override that. I also agree that this should be a project setting and something that can be set higher on a case by case basis.

2 seconds will not work for me. So this would require going thru every single instance of Action Javascript > Ajax Callback and edit the settings? That would be a huge project for me. Is there another way?

While we're on the subject of callbacks and unwanted default values, this is the new property that's caused me the most grief.

It's mind boggling that new additions to AA (whilst they are appreciated and expected from a subscription) don't preserve the functionality of prior releases ensuring the integrity of the environment and un-interrupted and unbroken operation of work by developers.

Thanks for pointing to this as a potential issue, Pete! Saw this firsthand for the past hour where my AlphaCloud-hosted site was apparently experiencing a delay retrieving image files from my S3 bucket. With the setting at 2000, the callback was timing out but at 7000 it works just fine. Couldn't figure out why this would happen periodically!

Perhaps the default could be set higher (in new releases) and then let us bring them down, when speed tweaking...?

A global default setting would be better. Then you can override the setting on a case by case basis in need be.

I am really loosing the plot with this setting, it was causing me so many problems on some UX components that I have turned checking if the server is available off and I still get the notification that the server is unavailable. My estimating package is now so hit and miss it is unusable!!!!

Things like this and some other issues I am having are seriously making me consider my subscription renewal at the end of the month.

Yeah, I've been turning it off as I go.. BUT I can't let customers upgrade the server otherwise it's going to be very costly for someone - it really need to be pre-set off - and use it if you want.
