Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Repeating Section Formatting broke after update

    Hello!

I have a simple repeating section. It has a few label controls and a dropdown and textbox in it. Some of the controls I use the Field Label on, and after a recent update they are all not working correctly.

I have a cost label that is updated programmatically, and I have the Field Label of that control set to Position: Right and Alignment: Left. The field label is $ / lb.

This used to look correctly, where when a value was set in that control the field label would append to the right and look like 2.14 $ / lb.
Now no matter what I do, the Field label is always above or below the control, it will not work when I set it to Left or Right so it is in-line with it. I have looked through all the options and tried tons of fixes and nothing fixes it. Not sure where to go from here.

Have updates been breaking things lately? I also had a javascript function just stop firing for no reason until I went in and basically did nothing to it but add a console log and it started working. Getting frustrating with the random bugs being introduced.

Mine did too, but, after recalculating all controls that fixed the problem.

just to be clear this is for version 7776

Yup I just updated to 7776.

Ah okay I will try that, maybe that is why the javascript wasn't firing as well. I'm having all kinds of weird issues on UX pages of things not working and formatting not working pretty much across the board. I must just need to recalculate them. Thanks!

I recalculated all controls and that doesn't seem to have fixed any of the issues unfortunately.

Sorry to hear that. If you're sure it's a bug you could always send a test case to Alpha.

Yes, it's because they do not roll out updates with just bug fixes, they always introduce new things in every update that break working apps. They have always done this and yes, I agree it is really frustrating.

I've ended up completely re-writing or replacing several repeating sections. They've not fared well in recent updates.

Thanks for the input Steve, I may have to do that.

What do you recommend to replace them with to get similar functionality?

If I just use repeating sections again would creating a new one and doing roughly the same thing fix the issues? Something to do with the way they are generated by alpha now vs before?

In one of my apps I've dumped repeating sections entirely. Went to list controls instead.

An even better option is a viewbox control, but, to be honest I haven't made the effort to get comfortable with it.

I've tried doing that and enjoy working with lists quite a bit more, but the issue I've run into is I am dynamically populating the lists using code and Im not sure how to add an editable field into the list.

For the problem I posted above, they select an item from a dropdown and it populates the rest of the data in the list, but I need a textbox for the quantity field they can update. I've had trouble dynamically filling a list but allowing it to have editable controls on it. That have onchange events

Is there a way to do that?

The list has built in editable controls? Is that what you mean?

I have an empty list with no defined columns or headings and I programmatically get a json and fill the list with data, but that data needs to be further edited in a single column (quantity needs to be filled in etc).
I've tried doing this in the past but haven't yet found a clean way to create an editable text box for a field like quantity.
