Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

User signup form wiith data entry grid instead of ux component

I have a user signup form built with UX component and it works quite well. User received confirmation email after signing up, no problem. However, I am in a situation where I need to populate some hidden data entry fields with records stored in a data table within the project. I tried but could not achieve this with UX component, so I decided to build the user signup form using a Grid component instead of UX. Now I can populate the user signup form with the required records, which I could not achieve in the UX but the sending of confirmation link by email to registered user becomes a problem.

I have taken the AfterDialogueValidate code which works in the UX, put it in the AfterInsertRecord handler of the Grid and tried so hard to tweeg the codes to make it work for the Grid but no way! It just won't send email to registered users. So I have to run here and cry for help. What am I missing out in the AfterInsertRecord handler codes?

I have attached sample both the UX component and Grid component.

    Thank you,

Difficult to follow what is going on with this without the dbf but I am guessing the hidden data fields on the UX are guid, regtemp, regstatus, regdate and regsource. These are currently set to hidden file type, change them to textboxes with the relevant type, then put these in a container and set the client side show hide expression to 1=2 so that it will not show

Why don't you send your 'cry for help' to Selwyn or the team at AA - you must be a subscriber - so ask them, I haven't looked at your components as I'm still waiting on answers for my own issues - and that's enough for me to deal with, so seriously ask AA to advise you under you subscription entitlement - why? I;m sure Sarah could also sort it.

As a side note I haven used a grid in 10 years.

Please look at the AfterInsertRecord handler codes in the Grid Component. That's where the problem is. Once we can get the codes to work, the Grid component will send confirmation email to registered users

We're not going to be able to help much because we can't debug your code. Add a debug(1) to the top of AfterInsertRecord, run the grid in Working Preview, then you can step through the code and find what is wrong.

I sincerely appreciate the responses so far but I think I have to rephrase my question to be better understood. Can you please give AfterInsertRecord code that enables the record entry Grid component to send email to the address submitted in the email field. Let's just do a user signup form that sends confirmation e-mail to registered user but we use a Grid for this and not a UX.

            Thanks.

              I think you want to save the record, right? You can add a button and use {grid.object}.submitGridPart();

As I looked at the UX (no sense messing with 2 components not working properly) , it looked like you're trying to send the email using the registrant's email profile
instead of the project's email profile. For testing purposes, just hardcode the project's email profile to see if that sends the email.

Sorry I don't know what you mean by,
                  hardcode the project's email profile
. What I simply want to achieve is to have a single entry Grid that works for new user signup form, which created user and send's confirmation email to the registrant. I want to achieve this using a Grid and not a UX.

Start with the basics and work your way through everything else. Are you able to send any email using email_send2 ? You can test by using a button or even running it from a script, but you absolutely need that part to work.

It’s the function you are trying to use in the grid event to send the email. The question suggests you don’t have an email profile configured which means your code will not work as desired.

I'm going to try to be a little more helpful now that I'm at an actual computer.
Documentation for Alpha Anywhere can be found at : https://documentation.alphasoftware.com/ . It is a great resource not only for how to do things, but often to explain how to use the
various functions exposed to us. The documentation for email_send2() function can be found at : https://documentation.alphasoftware....nd2%20function

As I said earlier, get the email_send2() function to work as expected (typically easier to get things to work with static information first), then you should be able to get your event, whether as part of a UX or Grid
                            to work as desired.

Edit: I meant to show this image to explain why I keep talking about email_send2(). 2021-08-12_11-57-44.png
